How to Redeem an Apple.com Gift Card Balance
What Apple’s Online Redeem Page Is For
Apple’s official online redemption page lets you enter an Apple Gift Card code or eligible content code in a web browser. After you sign in, Apple applies an accepted gift card amount to your Apple Account balance.
This browser page is separate from the Redeem Gift Card or Code option inside the App Store app. The two paths start in different places, but both require an Apple Account and can add an eligible gift card amount to that account.
Use only the redemption page reached through Apple’s official site. If you are finding it through search, check that the result belongs to Apple before entering your account details or code. Do not give the code to anyone who contacts you unexpectedly.
Step-by-Step: Redeeming Your Code Online
Have the card or email containing the code ready. A physical Apple Gift Card normally has a 16-digit redemption code on the back. You may need to peel away or gently scratch the covering. Apple says the redemption code begins with X. It is different from the card’s serial number.
For an emailed gift card, open the original email and look for the Redeem Now button. For a code printed on a receipt, locate the section identified as the redemption or gift card code rather than entering a transaction, reference, or serial number.
- Go to Apple’s official website and open its gift card redemption page.
- Select the option to sign in if Apple does not show the sign-in screen automatically.
- Sign in to the Apple Account that should receive the balance. Check the account carefully because the redeemed amount is attached to that account.
- Enter the redemption code exactly as shown. Do not include spaces unless the form inserts them automatically.
- Review the account shown on the screen, then choose Redeem.
- Wait for Apple’s confirmation before closing the page. If redemption succeeds, the amount becomes part of your Apple Account balance.
If the page redirects you to an Apple-hosted App Store redemption screen, follow the prompts there. That is part of Apple’s browser-based flow. You may be asked to sign in again for security.
Redeeming from an iPhone, iPad, or Mac
On an iPhone or iPad, open the App Store app. Tap your photo, initials, or the sign-in button at the top. Sign in if needed, then tap Redeem Gift Card or Code. Choose Use Camera to scan a supported card or Enter Code Manually, and then tap Redeem.
Settings is useful for confirming which Apple Account is active, but Apple’s standard gift card redemption steps use the App Store rather than a general Settings menu. Make sure the account shown in the App Store is the one that should receive the balance.
On an iPhone, Wallet is another option if an Apple Account card has been added. Open Wallet, tap the Apple Account card, tap the More button, and choose Redeem. You can use the camera or enter the code manually. Wallet features can vary by country or region.
On a Mac, open the App Store and click your name or the sign-in button in the sidebar. Click Redeem Gift Card. Enter the code manually, or use the camera when Apple offers that option and the card supports scanning.
Checking Your Apple Account Balance
On an iPhone or iPad, open the App Store and tap your photo, initials, or the sign-in button. After you sign in, any available Apple Account balance appears on the account screen. If no amount appears, Apple says the account does not currently have a balance.
On a Mac, open the App Store and sign in. The balance appears below your name near the bottom of the sidebar when funds are available. On an iPhone with an Apple Account card in Wallet, the balance and recent transactions can also appear beneath that card.
If a successful redemption is not reflected, sign out of the App Store and sign back in to refresh the displayed balance. Also confirm that you are checking the same Apple Account used during redemption.
Common Redemption Errors
Card is not valid: Apple displays a validity message. Enter the code manually and check easily confused characters, including B and 8, O and 0, S and 5, or Z and 2. Confirm that you entered the code beginning with X rather than the serial number.
Card has already been redeemed: Apple states that the card was previously redeemed. Sign out of the App Store on your devices, sign back in, and check the balance. The code may already be attached to your account.
Card has not been activated: Apple identifies an activation problem. Keep the card and receipt, and contact the retailer that issued it.
Code must be redeemed in a different country or region: Apple shows a region-related message when the card and account storefront do not match. Apple Gift Cards must be redeemed in the country or region where they were originally issued.
Code is unreadable: Do not keep scratching a damaged code area. Apple directs users with unreadable codes to Apple Support.
Getting Help If Redemption Fails
Start at the Support section of Apple’s official website. Search for the article about being unable to redeem an Apple Gift Card, then choose the Contact Apple Support option shown there. This leads to the current support choices available for your account and location.
Have the full card, the original receipt, and your Apple Account details ready. Apple may request clear images of the entire front and back of the card, the receipt showing when the card was issued, and the card’s serial number. The serial number is on the back and is not the redemption code beginning with X.
Do not post either number publicly. Give card images and account information only through Apple’s official support process.
