Choose the right federal sign-in
“Federal login” does not point to one shared account. First check the name of the agency on the letter, email, form, or benefit record you are trying to access. Then type that agency’s official name into your browser and choose a result ending in .gov.
Searches such as “federal.” or “www federal” may lead to unrelated sites. A page that uses the word “federal” is not automatically a government page. Do not enter a Social Security number, password, or bank details until you have checked the site name and the .gov ending.
If you are trying to return to the service discussed on this page, start at {site}. If you meant a different agency, use that agency’s official .gov site instead.
Before you call a federal agency
There is no single number for every federal question. Identify the agency that sent the notice or manages the account before calling. Use the contact details printed on an official notice or shown on the agency’s .gov contact page.
Have these items ready:
- The notice, case, claim, or confirmation number
- The exact name used on the account
- The date you filed, applied, or sent the request
- A short description of the problem and any error message
Do not give a password or one-time sign-in code to a caller. If someone contacted you unexpectedly, end the call and find the agency through its official .gov page. If the issue concerns a private tax preparer or another company, contact that business rather than a federal agency.
Check a Care.com refund separately
A Care.com refund is not a federal tax refund, so it will not appear in a federal refund tracker. First check the payment method used for the Care.com charge. Look for a pending credit, reversal, or refund entry, and compare it with any cancellation or refund confirmation you received.
If no credit appears, sign in to the Care.com account connected to the charge and review its billing or membership records. Make sure you are using the same email address that was active when the payment was made.
When contacting Care.com support, provide the charge date, payment method, account email, and any confirmation or case number. Do not send a full card number, password, or security code. If Care.com confirms that a refund was issued but it still does not appear, ask the card issuer or bank to trace the credit. If you do not recognize the original charge, report it to the payment provider as an unrecognized transaction.
