Find the Official YouTube App

Open Google Play and search for “YouTube.” The official YouTube Google Play app should be listed under the name YouTube, with Google LLC shown as the developer. Check both the app name and developer before tapping any button.

Similar names and icons can appear in search results. Do not rely on the red play-button icon alone. Open the app details page and confirm that the developer is Google LLC. The listing should also provide standard Google Play sections such as app details, ratings, reviews, and data safety information.

If you used a search engine to reach Google Play, check the listing again inside the Google Play app before continuing. This helps you avoid unofficial apps and makes sure the YouTube Google Play Store download is handled by the store on your Android device.

Download and Install YouTube

Connect the device to a stable Wi-Fi or mobile data connection. Make sure Google Play is signed in to a Google Account, then follow these steps to download YouTube app from Google Play:

  1. Open the Google Play Store app on the Android device.
  2. Tap the search box and enter “YouTube.”
  3. Select YouTube from the results and confirm that Google LLC is the developer.
  4. Tap Install.
  5. Keep the device connected while Google Play downloads and installs the app.
  6. Wait for the Install button to change to Open.

You can tap Open from the listing or return to the device’s app screen and tap the YouTube icon. The time needed for a YouTube Google Play app download depends on the connection and the device.

If the listing shows Open instead of Install, YouTube is already installed. If it shows Update, the app is installed but a newer version is available. These steps also apply when searching for a YouTube download for Android through Google Play.

Update the YouTube App

An update can fix problems and provide the current version available for the device. To check manually, open Google Play, search for YouTube, and open the official listing. Tap Update if that button appears. If the page shows Open, Google Play does not currently offer another update for that device.

You can also check through the account menu in Google Play:

  1. Open Google Play and tap the profile picture.
  2. Select Manage apps and device.
  3. Open the section for available updates.
  4. Find YouTube and tap Update.

Leave Google Play open or let the update continue in the background. Do not uninstall the app merely because an update is taking time. First check the connection, available storage, and other downloads in progress.

Fix Download or Installation Problems

If the YouTube Google Play download will not start, read the message on the listing and check the download status. The wording often identifies what needs attention.

  • No Install button: The app may already be installed, restricted by device or account controls, or unavailable for that device. Look for Open, Update, or a compatibility message. A parent, school, or workplace administrator may control which apps can be installed.

  • Download stays pending: Another app may be downloading or updating first. Open Manage apps and device in Google Play and review the active downloads. Pause or finish other updates, then try YouTube again.

  • Insufficient storage: Open the device’s storage settings and check the available space. Remove files or apps you no longer need, then restart the YouTube Google Play Store download. Avoid deleting anything important without a backup.

  • Connection error: Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data if both are available. Turn airplane mode on and off, then retry. A weak or interrupted connection can prevent Google Play from completing the download.

  • Compatibility message: Google Play determines whether the available app version can be installed on the device. Check for Android system updates in the device settings. If the message remains, use the official help options rather than attempting an unofficial installation.

If basic checks do not help, restart the device. Then reopen Google Play, confirm that the correct Google Account is active, and try to install YouTube app from Google Play again. You can also check whether other apps download successfully. If none do, the issue is more likely related to Google Play, the account, the connection, or the device.

Open YouTube and Sign In

After installation, tap Open on the YouTube app Google Play Store listing, or tap the YouTube icon on the app screen. You can browse some content without signing in, but account features require a Google Account.

To sign in, open YouTube and tap the profile icon. Select Sign in, then choose a Google Account already on the device or follow the prompts to add one. YouTube does not use a separate set of YouTube credentials. The email address and password are for the Google Account connected to YouTube.

If the wrong account appears, tap the profile icon and use the account switcher. If you cannot remember the password or complete account verification, use the Google Account recovery option shown during sign-in. Do not repeatedly guess the password, because that can delay access.

Get Official Help

For download, installation, pending-update, or Google Play error problems, open Google Play, tap the profile picture, and select Help and feedback. Search for the message displayed on the device or choose the topic about downloading apps.

For problems that begin after YouTube opens, use the YouTube app’s Help and feedback option. Tap the profile icon, open Help and feedback, and select the topic closest to the problem. Use the Google Account recovery prompts for password, verification, or account-access issues.

When asking for help, note the device model, Android version, exact error message, and whether the problem happens on Wi-Fi, mobile data, or both. Do not share a password, verification code, or other private sign-in information.
