UPS.com Tracking: Check Your Package Status

Updated 2026-08-17 · 876 words

Open the Official UPS Tracking Page

Open {site} and choose Tracking. Check that the page clearly identifies UPS before entering a shipment number or any personal information.

Search results and messages may show addresses with extra spaces, repeated dots, missing letters, or misplaced slashes. Searches such as “ups.com track,” “ups .com track,” “ups..com/track,” “ups .com/track,” “https://ups.com/track,” and “ups/.com/track” may express the right intent, but several are malformed. Do not copy an unusual address from a message or advertisement. Start from the verified site marker on this page instead.

A legitimate tracking page should ask for a tracking number and display UPS branding. Leave the page if it unexpectedly asks for payment details, an account password, or unrelated personal information just to show a basic shipment status.

Track a UPS Package

Have the complete tracking number ready. It may contain letters and numbers, so copy it carefully and keep its original order.

  1. Go to the official UPS site and open the Tracking section.
  2. Find the field for a tracking number.
  3. Paste or type the number without adding words, punctuation, or quotation marks.
  4. Select the Track button to submit it.
  5. Review the latest available update, location details, and any action requested from the recipient.

If you copied the number from an email or text, check for a space at the beginning or end. On a phone, pasted text can also include a hidden line break. Removing the entry and typing it again may help.

Tracking details reflect the scans and information available to UPS. An estimated delivery date can change, so treat it as an estimate rather than a promise.

Understand Tracking Status Messages

Tracking wording can vary, but most updates fit into a few common categories:

  • Label created means the sender has provided shipment information. UPS may not yet have the package or record an origin scan.
  • In transit means the shipment is moving through the UPS network. It may remain under this broad status between facility scans.
  • Out for delivery means the shipment has reached the local delivery stage. It does not guarantee delivery at a particular time.
  • Delivery attempted means a driver could not complete delivery. Read the tracking details for the next step, another attempt, or available pickup instructions.
  • Delayed or exception means weather, an address issue, an operational event, or another condition may affect movement. The details may explain whether action is needed.
  • Delivered means UPS recorded the shipment as delivered. Review the displayed location or delivery details before reporting it missing.

A lack of a new scan does not always mean the package has stopped moving. Updates can appear after the next facility or delivery scan.

If UPS Tracking Does Not Work

An invalid or unrecognized message usually means the number was entered incorrectly, has not reached the tracking system yet, or is not a UPS tracking number. Compare every character with the sender’s message or receipt. Watch for similar-looking letters and numbers.

If shipment information was created recently, allow time for the first update. Contact the sender if the number remains unrecognized or if the sender has not confirmed that UPS received the package.

If the page will not load, try these basic steps:

  • Refresh the page once and check your internet connection.
  • Close the browser tab, reopen {site}, and return to Tracking.
  • Turn off a content blocker temporarily if it is preventing the form from appearing.
  • Clear the browser’s cached data for the site or use a private browsing window.
  • Try another current browser or switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.

For missing updates, read the last scan and any exception message before contacting support. Repeatedly submitting the number will not create a new scan.

Find a Missing Tracking Number

Look first in the shipment confirmation email or text from the sender. The number may also appear on a shipping receipt, a printed label copy, an order details page, or a delivery notification. Search your email for the sender’s name together with “tracking” or “shipped.”

If another person or business arranged the shipment, ask that sender for the number. UPS may provide official shipment lookup or visibility options for eligible shipments, but availability can depend on how the shipment was created and what identifying information you have. Use the Tracking area on the official site and follow any displayed option for finding or viewing shipments.

Do not post a tracking number publicly. It can reveal shipment activity and delivery details.

Contact UPS About a Shipment

Shipment support may be necessary when tracking requests action, a delivery attempt needs follow-up, a long period passes without a meaningful update, or a package marked delivered cannot be found after checking the reported location.

Before contacting UPS through an official channel, prepare:

  • The full tracking number.
  • The sender’s and recipient’s names.
  • The destination address and postal code.
  • The date and wording of the last tracking update.
  • A short description of the problem and any steps already taken.

If the package is marked delivered, check entrances, a mailroom, reception area, household members, and nearby safe locations first. If UPS directs the sender to begin a claim or investigation, contact the sender promptly. Use only contact choices presented on the official UPS site, and avoid numbers or support accounts copied from unverified search results or messages.
