UPS.com Tracking and Package Status

Open the Official UPS Tracking Page
Open {site} and look for the tracking option in the main navigation or on the home page. The page should clearly identify UPS and provide a field for a tracking number.
Avoid opening pages that use UPS branding but belong to another company. Search phrases such as ups.com.track and ups.com-track may lead to mixed or misleading results. Instead of relying on the wording of a search result, start from the verified company site and select its tracking tool.
If you arrived through a message about your shipment, check that the sender and shipment details are familiar. When in doubt, leave the message and reach the tracking tool from the official site.
Enter a UPS Tracking Number
Find the tracking number in the shipment confirmation, receipt, order details, or notice provided by the sender. A reference number, order number, or account number may not work in the standard tracking field.
- Copy the complete tracking number from the shipment record.
- Paste or type it into the tracking field.
- Check the first and last characters carefully.
- Select the button that submits the tracking request.
Do not add words such as “tracking number” to the field. Remove spaces before or after the number unless they are part of the number as displayed. Watch for characters that look alike, especially letters and numbers. Copying and pasting usually prevents typing mistakes, but make sure punctuation from a message was not copied with it.
If you have several packages, track each shipment number separately unless the official tool allows multiple entries.
Understand the Tracking Status
The tracking result shows the latest information UPS has associated with the shipment. Read the status together with its date, time, location, and any instructions shown on the page.
- Label or shipment information received: Shipment details have been created, but this does not necessarily mean that the package has entered the carrier network.
- In transit: The package is moving through the shipping network. Later scans may show another facility or location.
- Out for delivery: The shipment has reached a local delivery stage. Follow any instructions displayed with the status.
- Delivered: The system records the shipment as delivered. Review the displayed delivery details before reporting it missing.
- Exception, delay, or action needed: The shipment has an issue or requires attention. Use the explanation and instructions shown in the official tracking result.
A tracking status and an estimated delivery date are different. The status describes the shipment’s recorded stage. The estimated date is a projection and may change as new information is received. Treat the latest official result as the current record, not as a guaranteed delivery promise.
Fix a Tracking Number That Does Not Work
If the number is rejected, compare it character by character with the original shipment record. Check for missing characters, extra spaces, copied punctuation, or a letter entered as a number. Confirm that you are using a UPS tracking number rather than an order number supplied by a store or sender.
If the number is accepted but no shipment appears, verify it with the sender. Shipment information may not be visible in tracking at the moment you check, so try the official tool again after confirming that the number is correct. Do not guess at a corrected number.
If tracking was available earlier but is now unavailable, refresh the page, reopen the official tracking tool, or try another browser. A private browsing window can help when an old page or saved session is causing a display problem.
Save the exact error message or take a screenshot before contacting support. Note whether the tool rejects the number, displays no record, or loads a shipment without current details. These are different problems and the wording helps support understand what happened.
Sign In to View Shipment Details
You can usually check a shipment with its tracking number without signing in. An account may show shipment details associated with your profile or provide account-based delivery options when they are available for that shipment.
To reach sign-in safely, open {site} and select the account or sign-in option. Do not enter your password on a page reached through an unfamiliar shipment message.
After signing in, look for shipments or tracking in the account area. If the package does not appear, use its tracking number in the standard tracking tool. Signing in does not make an incorrect number valid or guarantee that every shipment will be linked to the account.
Contact UPS About a Shipment
Contact official UPS support when the tracking result tells you to request help, when a confirmed tracking number continues to fail, or when the displayed shipment details need investigation. Use the support or help section reached from the official site.
Have these details ready:
- The complete tracking number
- The latest status and the date and time shown
- The sender’s name and the shipment destination
- Any notice, error message, or delivery detail displayed
- The date you last saw a status change
If you are not the sender, support may ask you to contact the sender for information or action related to the shipment. Avoid sending passwords or unrelated account information. Provide only the details needed to identify and review the package.
