Track an Order by Order or Tracking Number
Choose the Right Number
Before you start, check which number you have. An order number identifies the request in the organization’s own system. It is usually shown in the confirmation message, account order history, receipt, or order details. It may include letters, numbers, or both.
A carrier tracking number identifies a shipment after it has been prepared for delivery. It is usually found in a shipping message or beside a label such as Tracking, Shipment, or Package ID. If the order has not shipped, a tracking number may not exist yet.
Use the order number on the organization’s order-status page. Use the tracking number on the organization’s shipment page or the carrier named in the shipping details. A search for a tracking number by order number may show a shipment number only after the order has shipped. One order may also have several tracking numbers if its items are sent separately.
Track by Order Number
To track by order number, have the complete number ready before opening the status tool. You may also need the email address, phone number, billing ZIP code, or last name entered with the order. Provide only the details requested by the official form.
- Open {site} and look for Order Status, Track Order, My Orders, or a similar option.
- Enter the order number exactly as it appears in the confirmation or order history.
- Enter any required identifying detail. Use the same spelling, email address, phone number, or ZIP code associated with the order.
- Submit the form and review the current status, shipment details, and any available tracking number.
If the site requires sign-in, open your account and select the relevant order from its history. This is often the simplest way to track my order by order number because the order may already be connected to the account.
The phrases track an order by order number, track order by order number, tracking order by order number, and order tracking by number all describe this same process: using the organization’s internal reference to find its status.
Track by Tracking Number
To track by tracking number, first read the shipping confirmation and identify the carrier, if one is named. Use the organization’s official shipment-status page or go directly to that carrier’s official website. Do not assume which carrier has the package based only on the number’s format.
- Copy the full tracking number from the shipping message or order details.
- Open the official tracking tool and find the field labeled Tracking Number or a similar name.
- Paste or type the number without adding surrounding words.
- Submit it and read the latest scan, shipment progress, and any action notice.
If you need to check by tracking number, the carrier’s result usually reflects package scans rather than the organization’s internal processing steps. The phrases track order by tracking number, tracking order by tracking number, tracking by tracking number, and how to track by tracking number all refer to checking that shipment record.
For reliable tracking by number, start from {site} or from the carrier name shown in the official shipping message. A general web search may display unrelated or unofficial tracking tools.
Understand the Tracking Status
- Order received means the organization has recorded the order but may not have started preparing it.
- Processing means the order is being reviewed or prepared. A carrier tracking number may not be available yet.
- Shipped means the shipment has been prepared and assigned to a carrier. The first carrier scan may still be pending.
- In transit means the package is moving through the carrier’s network. It does not mean the package will arrive that day.
- Out for delivery means the carrier has placed the package on the local delivery route.
- Delivered means the carrier recorded a completed delivery. Check the stated location and ask other household members before reporting it missing.
- Exception means an issue has interrupted normal movement. Read the accompanying note for any action requested.
- Unavailable means the system cannot display details. The number may be new, incorrect, expired, or entered in the wrong tool.
Status wording can vary. Look at the latest dated event and any note beside it instead of relying only on the main label.
If the Number Does Not Work
Compare the number character by character with the original message. Remove accidental spaces, check letters that resemble digits, and make sure you did not copy punctuation from the surrounding text.
Confirm that you are using the correct tool. An order number may fail on a carrier page, while a tracking number may fail in an order-number field. If you want to know how to check by tracking number, use the shipment or carrier tool rather than the general order lookup.
A new tracking number may need time to activate after the shipping message is created. Try again later if the order says shipped but the carrier has no scan. An unchanged status can also mean that no new scan has been posted yet.
If you cannot find the confirmation, check filtered, archived, and deleted messages. Search for the organization’s name and terms such as order, confirmation, shipped, or tracking. Also check whether another email address or phone number was used.
When tracking order by order number, enter the same contact details supplied with the order. A changed email address, different ZIP code, nickname, or typing error can prevent a match even when the number is correct.
Get Help With an Order
Contact official customer support if the number remains invalid, tracking never appears after shipment, the status has not changed for an unusual length of time, or a delivered package cannot be located. Use the support option provided on the organization’s official site.
Before contacting support, prepare the order number, tracking number, name and contact details associated with the order, the date of the confirmation, and the exact status or error message. Note when you last checked and whether the organization’s page and the carrier’s page show different results.
Do not send passwords or full payment details. Ask the representative to confirm whether the number is an order number or tracking number, whether multiple shipments exist, and which official status source applies. This gives support enough context to investigate missing, invalid, or unchanged tracking details without confusing the two number types.
