Forgot Your SecureFolder Password? Recovery Steps
To reset a forgotten Secure Folder password, open Secure Folder on the Samsung Galaxy device, tap Forgot after an incorrect entry, and sign in to the linked Samsung account.
What does the Secure Folder password protect?
Samsung Secure Folder uses a separate PIN, pattern, password, or registered fingerprint to guard the apps and files stored in a protected area of a Galaxy phone or tablet.
This guide applies to Samsung Secure Folder. It does not apply to Files by Google Safe Folder or secure-folder features made by other phone companies.
Where do I start a Secure Folder password reset?
Start on the Galaxy phone or tablet that contains Secure Folder. Samsung says Secure Folder cannot be accessed from a website or computer, so there is no separate online recovery page for the folder itself.
Open Secure Folder from the Apps screen. If its icon is hidden, open Settings, select Security and privacy, select More security settings, and then select Secure Folder.
The reset works only if Reset with Samsung account was enabled when the Secure Folder security method was configured. If that option was not enabled, the Forgot prompt will not appear and Samsung says access cannot be recovered. Secure Folder can then be removed and set up again, but removing it may erase its contents.
How do I reset a forgotten Secure Folder password?
- Open Secure Folder on the Galaxy phone or tablet.
- Enter the PIN, pattern, or password you think is correct.
- After the device rejects the entry, tap Forgot on the prompt.
- Tap Reset in the pop-up window.
- Sign in to the Samsung account linked to Secure Folder.
- Complete any Samsung account verification prompt that appears.
- Select a new PIN, pattern, password, or registered fingerprint when Secure Folder displays the available security methods.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to create and confirm the new credential.
- Open Secure Folder with the new credential to confirm that the reset worked.
If you forgot your Secure Folder password and there is no Forgot option, do not assume that repeated incorrect entries will reveal another recovery route. Samsung states that the option is unavailable when Reset with Samsung account was not enabled beforehand.
How does Samsung verify my identity during a Secure Folder reset?
The Secure Folder reset asks you to sign in to the Samsung account that was connected to the folder. This means you need that account’s sign-in information, not the forgotten Secure Folder credential.
Samsung account two-step verification may then ask for an additional code or approval. Depending on the verification methods already configured for the account, the proof may be:
- A text-message code sent to a phone number registered with the Samsung account.
- A notification sent to another Galaxy device already signed in to the same account.
- A code from an authenticator app that was previously connected to the account.
- A previously saved, single-use backup code.
Samsung’s current instructions do not list a security question as part of the Secure Folder reset. If you cannot sign in because you also forgot the Samsung account password, recover that account first through the Samsung account sign-in process at {site}.
What should I do if the verification code never arrives?
If a Samsung account verification text does not arrive, Samsung recommends checking that the phone has a strong Wi-Fi or mobile-data connection and that messages from the sender are not blocked.
- Check other Galaxy phones, tablets, or computers already signed in to the Samsung account for a verification notification.
- On the verification screen, look for the option indicating that the code was not received. If offered, choose verification with a saved backup code.
- Use the connected authenticator app if that method was configured before the lockout.
- Confirm that the registered phone number is still active. A code sent to an old number cannot be received on a replacement number automatically.
- Check the device operating-system version and Samsung account version if codes still do not arrive, as Samsung directs users to confirm both before contacting support.
A Secure Folder reset does not normally send a reset link by email. The folder flow uses Samsung account sign-in and may use two-step verification. Do not share a verification or backup code with anyone who contacts you unexpectedly.
What password can I choose for Secure Folder?
Samsung’s US Secure Folder instructions let the device present the available choices: PIN, pattern, password, or registered fingerprint. The official recovery guide does not publish one fixed password-length or character rule for every supported Galaxy device and software version.
Select Password if you want a text password, then follow the exact requirements displayed on the device. Create a credential that is different from the Samsung account password and phone screen lock, and record it in a secure password manager. Finish every confirmation prompt before leaving the screen.
Who can help if Secure Folder is still locked?
Open {site} and choose the Samsung Support contact section. The official US support page offers live chat and other support methods, with current availability displayed beside each option.
Tell the support representative that the problem is a forgotten Samsung Secure Folder credential. State whether Forgot appears, whether Reset with Samsung account was enabled, and whether Samsung account sign-in or two-step verification is failing.
Samsung Support may help with Samsung account verification or a malfunctioning reset flow, but it cannot make the Forgot prompt available when recovery was not enabled beforehand. Avoid uninstalling Secure Folder, clearing its data, or removing it unless you accept the risk of losing the protected contents.
