To return an iPhone app, submit a refund request to Apple using the Apple Account that made the purchase. Deleting the app or canceling a subscription does not submit a return or refund request.

Apple reviews each request, so submitting the form does not guarantee a refund. Keep the app name, purchase receipt, and Apple Account sign-in details ready before starting.

Can You Return an iPhone App?

An app return means asking Apple to review an App Store purchase for a possible refund. It is a request about the transaction, not a physical return and not a request to return an iPhone device.

These actions are different:

  • Requesting a refund asks Apple to review the app transaction.
  • Deleting an app removes it from the iPhone but does not request a refund.
  • Canceling a subscription stops future renewals under the cancellation terms but does not automatically request a refund for an earlier charge.
  • Hiding an app changes whether it appears in parts of the purchase list but does not reverse the transaction.

Refund eligibility can depend on the purchase and the country or region. The request page shows the options available for the signed-in account; do not assume that an app qualifies until Apple reviews the request.

How Do You Request an App Return on iPhone?

You can complete the return iPhone app process in a web browser on the iPhone. Use the Apple Account associated with the App Store transaction.

  1. Open the company’s official website in Safari or another browser on the iPhone.
  2. Sign in with the Apple Account email address or phone number and password used for the app purchase. Complete any identity-verification prompt.
  3. Open the menu labeled “I’d like to” and choose “Request a refund.”
  4. Select the reason that best matches the request, then choose “Next.”
  5. Select the app from the displayed transactions. Check the app name and transaction details before continuing.
  6. Choose “Submit.” Keep the confirmation available until the request has been resolved.

If the charge concerns a subscription that should not renew, manage the subscription separately in the iPhone’s subscription settings. A refund request and a subscription cancellation serve different purposes.

How Do You Check an App Refund Request Status?

Check a submitted app return on the same official request page used to file it. Sign in with the same Apple Account, then select “Check Status of Claims.”

  1. Return to Apple’s official problem-reporting page.
  2. Sign in with the Apple Account used for the request.
  3. Select “Check Status of Claims.”
  4. Choose the request to view its current status.

If “Check Status of Claims” is not shown, Apple says there are no pending refund requests for that signed-in account. Check whether a different Apple Account was used before submitting another request.

What If You Cannot Find the App?

An app may be missing because the wrong Apple Account is signed in, the transaction is still pending, or the charge belongs to a Family Sharing member. A missing app does not establish whether the transaction is eligible for a refund.

  • Search email for an Apple receipt or invoice. Confirm the app name and the Apple Account shown on the receipt.
  • If another Apple Account appears on the receipt, sign out of the request page and sign in with that account.
  • If several Apple Accounts may have been used, check the transaction list under each account you control.
  • If the transaction is pending, wait until Apple issues the email receipt before trying the refund form again.
  • If an order is unpaid, Apple may require the payment issue to be resolved before a refund request can be submitted.
  • If the receipt belongs to a Family Sharing member and you are the family organizer, open the Apple Account menu on the request page and choose “All” to look for purchases charged to the shared payment method.
  • If the transaction was handled outside Apple’s App Store or in-app purchase system, contact the company that processed the charge.

What If You Cannot Sign In to Request the App Return?

An Apple Account is the account used for Apple services and App Store transactions. Apple ID is now called Apple Account, but the same associated email address or phone number and password can still be used.

If the password is forgotten and the iPhone is already signed in, open Settings, tap your name, select “Sign-In & Security,” and tap “Change Password.” Enter the iPhone passcode and follow the prompts.

If the account identifier is unclear, open Settings and tap your name to view the Apple Account information. Also check the purchase receipt, because the refund request must be made through the account connected to the transaction.

If a trusted device is unavailable, use Apple’s account-recovery choices shown on its official Apple Account Support page or in the Apple Support app. Follow only Apple’s prompts, and never give an unexpected caller or message a verification code, password, or device passcode.

How Do You Contact Official Apple Support?

If the self-service form does not work, the transaction remains missing after the account checks, or the account is locked or disabled, contact Apple Support through a verified channel.

  1. Open the company’s official website and go to the support area.
  2. Choose the option for billing, subscriptions, App Store purchases, refunds, or Apple Account access, depending on the problem.
  3. Select one of the contact methods Apple displays for the account and location.
  4. Have the app name, receipt, transaction date, Apple Account identifier, request confirmation, and any exact error message ready.

Do not use phone numbers or account-recovery pages supplied by unsolicited messages or search advertisements. An Apple Support representative can help with access or a form that is not working, but cannot guarantee that an app refund request will be approved.
