To unlock a Google Pixel, use the screen PIN, pattern, password, or an already configured biometric method. If you forgot the Google Pixel PIN or password, Google’s official remedy is to erase the phone, set it up again, and restore any available backup.

Identify Why Your Google Pixel Is Locked

Before trying to reset a locked Google Pixel, identify which lock is stopping you:

  • A forgotten screen lock means the phone rejects its PIN, pattern, or password. A Google Account password normally does not replace the screen lock.
  • A disabled or temporarily unavailable device usually follows repeated incorrect attempts. Wait for any timer shown before entering the correct screen lock.
  • A forgotten Google Account password prevents account sign-in. It can also stop setup after a factory reset.
  • A SIM PIN protects the SIM or eSIM rather than the phone’s screen. Repeated wrong entries may require a carrier-provided unlock code.
  • A carrier lock limits which mobile carrier can activate the phone. A factory reset does not remove that restriction; contact the carrier that locked it.

Do not keep guessing a SIM PIN or carrier code. Those locks require information from the mobile carrier, not a Google Pixel factory reset.

Try the Official Pixel Unlock Options

If you still know the screen lock, wake the Google Pixel and enter the correct PIN, pattern, or password. After the phone opens, you can change the lock under Settings, Security & privacy, Device unlock, and Screen lock; the exact labels can vary by Android version.

Fingerprint or face unlock may work if it was configured before the lockout. The Google Pixel will still require the backup PIN, pattern, or password in some situations, including after a restart or after several failed biometric attempts.

  1. Check that you are entering the screen credential, not the Google Account password or SIM PIN.
  2. Remove a case or screen obstruction if fingerprint or face recognition is failing.
  3. Enter the backup screen lock when the Pixel requests it.
  4. If the phone opens, back up important data before changing security settings or attempting a reset.

There is no official account-based command that reveals or replaces a forgotten screen PIN. If you forgot the Google Pixel password and no configured unlock method works, erasing the device is the supported next step.

Reset a Google Pixel That You Cannot Unlock

A reset Google Pixel without password procedure erases the device rather than bypassing its security. If Find Hub was enabled and the phone is powered on, online, signed in to your Google Account, and visible in Google Play, you may use Google’s Find Hub from another device to select the Pixel and erase it.

For a manual Google Pixel factory reset, use the following official recovery procedure:

  1. Turn off the Google Pixel.
  2. On Pixel 6 and later, hold Volume Down and Power together until Fastboot mode appears. On earlier supported Pixel phones, hold Volume Up and Power together. Release the buttons when Fastboot mode appears; holding them too long may restart the phone.
  3. Use either volume button to highlight Recovery mode, then press Power.
  4. When “No command” appears, hold Power, press Volume Up, and quickly release both buttons.
  5. In Android Recovery, use Volume Down to highlight Wipe data/factory reset, then press Power.
  6. Select Factory data reset and confirm. Wait until “Data wipe complete” appears.
  7. Select Reboot system now, then follow the setup prompts.

If the buttons, display, or menus do not behave as described, stop and confirm the model with official Pixel support. Do not select unfamiliar bootloader options or use third-party bypass tools.

Prepare for Data Loss and Device Protection

A factory reset removes locally stored apps, photos, messages, downloads, settings, and other device data. Information already backed up to the associated Google Account may be restorable during setup, but a reset cannot guarantee recovery of files that existed only on the phone.

Factory Reset Protection is an anti-theft safeguard. After you reset a locked Google Pixel, setup may require a Google Account that was previously added to that device. Recover that account before resetting whenever possible, and do not rely on services claiming they can bypass activation.

If you can still unlock the phone, confirm that synchronization and backup have completed before erasing it. Keep the phone charged and maintain a stable Wi-Fi connection during setup and restoration.

Recover Your Google Account

If forgotten Google credentials block access or post-reset activation, use Google’s official account-recovery process. Open google.com, find the Google Account help or sign-in recovery option, and follow the prompts.

  1. Enter the email address or phone information associated with the account.
  2. Answer ownership questions as accurately as possible.
  3. Use a familiar device, browser, and location when available.
  4. Check the recovery email address or phone for a verification prompt or code.
  5. Create a new password when Google confirms ownership, then use that account during Pixel setup.

If you forgot the email address, the recovery process may ask for the full account name plus a recovery phone number or email address. Work or school accounts may require help from the organization’s administrator. Never give a password or verification code to someone claiming they can recover the account for you.

Contact Official Google Pixel Support

For verified help, open google.com and choose the Pixel support or Contact us option. Support choices can depend on the device, issue, region, and whether you can sign in.

Have the Pixel model, serial number or IMEI, Android version if known, exact error message, mobile carrier, and a description of the steps already attempted. Keep proof that the device belongs to you available if requested, but never send a password, screen PIN, or one-time verification code.

Tell support whether the problem is a forgotten screen lock, Google Account recovery, SIM PIN, carrier restriction, broken button, or unresponsive display. That distinction helps Google direct you to the correct official process without risking unnecessary data loss.
