Open the Official O&R Outage Map

Open {site} and look for the outage or emergency section. Select the link labeled Outage Map, View Outages, or similar wording. Using the company’s own website helps you avoid unofficial status pages that may combine old reports, user comments, or information from several utilities.

Confirm that the page identifies Orange and Rockland Utilities before entering a location. Search results and social media posts may lead to third-party maps that are useful for general discussion but are not the official source for O&R service information.

The official O&R outage map may open in a separate page or map viewer. If you are checking during severe weather, expect the map to load more slowly because many customers may be using it at once.

Check an Outage Near Your Address

On the o and r outage map, use the location search box if one is available. Enter the service address, town, ZIP code, or another location accepted by the search tool. Choose the matching result carefully, especially when several streets or communities have similar names.

  1. Open the map and allow it to finish loading.
  2. Enter the location you want to check.
  3. Select the matching address or area from the results.
  4. Tap or select the outage marker or shaded area for more details.
  5. Check the displayed update time before relying on the information.

You may also zoom and move around the map to inspect nearby areas. A marker close to an address does not always prove that the exact property is included. Read the details attached to the marker and compare them with what you see at the property.

If your lights are out but no nearby outage appears, the problem may not have been reported yet, the map may still be updating, or the issue may affect only your property. Report the outage through an official O&R channel rather than waiting for a marker to appear.

Understand Outage Map Details

The O&R outage map may group incidents when you are viewing a large area. Zooming in can reveal separate outage locations and more specific details. Symbols, colors, and shaded regions can represent different outage sizes or work stages, so check the map legend instead of judging by color alone.

  • Reported outage: O&R has received information about a possible interruption. A report does not necessarily mean the cause or full boundaries have been confirmed.

  • Affected customers: This is an estimated count linked to the incident or selected area. It may change as the utility investigates or restores portions of the system.

  • Crew status: Wording may indicate that the outage is awaiting assessment, assigned, under investigation, or being repaired. Status labels can change as work progresses.

  • Restoration estimate: An estimated restoration time is a planning estimate, not a guarantee. Weather, damage, access, and additional faults can cause it to change.

  • Last updated: This shows when the displayed information was refreshed. It does not guarantee that every condition at the location changed at that moment.

Check again later if the details are incomplete. During a widespread event, assessment may take time, and information for one incident may be updated before information for another.

Report a Power Outage

If power is out at your location, use the official reporting option even if the outage already appears on the map. Open {site}, find the outage or emergency section, and choose the option to report an outage. The site may also direct customers to another official reporting channel.

Have the service address ready. You may be asked for the account holder’s name, an account identifier, a registered contact detail, or information that helps identify the meter or location. If you do not have account access, provide the most exact location information the reporting system accepts.

Before reporting, check whether the outage affects neighboring properties. If only your home is affected and it is safe to do so, look at the breaker panel for a tripped breaker. Do not reset anything if you see water, smoke, heat damage, sparking, or exposed wiring. Contact a qualified professional when the problem appears to be inside the property.

What to Do If the Map Does Not Load

A blank screen, spinning map, or failed location search may be caused by a weak connection, browser settings, or heavy traffic. Try these basic steps:

  • Refresh the page once and wait for the map data to appear.

  • Switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data if another safe connection is available.

  • Close extra browser tabs and reopen the official map.

  • Allow location access only if you want the map to find your device location; you can usually search manually instead.

  • Try a private browsing window or another current browser if the page remains blank.

  • Disable a content blocker temporarily if it is preventing the map from loading, then restore your preferred setting afterward.

If the map still does not work, use the official outage-reporting or customer-support option shown in the verified contact block on this page. Do not delay reporting an outage or hazard just because the map is unavailable.

Power Line and Electrical Safety

Treat every fallen or hanging wire as energized. Stay far away, keep children and pets back, and warn others without approaching the area. Do not touch the wire, anything resting on it, or nearby fences, trees, vehicles, or standing water that could carry electricity.

Report a downed wire through O&R’s official emergency channel. If there is fire, smoke, injury, immediate danger, or a wire is threatening people or traffic, contact emergency services from a safe location. Never attempt to move a wire or remove branches from electrical equipment.

If a wire falls on a vehicle, remain inside unless fire or another immediate threat makes staying more dangerous. Alert emergency services and follow their instructions. Keep generators outdoors and away from doors, windows, and vents, and never connect one to household wiring without properly installed safety equipment.
