How to Open the Google Play Store App
Open the Google Play Store App
On a supported Android phone or tablet, Google Play Store is usually preinstalled. To go to the Google Play Store app, unlock your device and look for the multicolored triangle icon labeled Play Store.
- Unlock your Android device.
- Find the Play Store icon on the Home screen or in your full list of apps.
- Tap the icon once.
- Wait for the store to open. If asked, choose or sign in to a Google Account.
These steps also apply if you searched for “open Google Play Store app,” “take me to the Play Store app,” or “go to Google Play app.” A search result or voice command may point you to the icon, but you still need to tap it or confirm that you want to open it.
If the app opens to a blank page or shows an error, check that Wi-Fi or mobile data is working. Close the app, open it again, and restart the device if the problem continues.
Find the App on Your Device
The icon may not be on the first Home screen. Swipe left or right through your Home screens and check folders, especially one named Google. Do not assume the app is missing just because its shortcut is not visible.
To search the full app list:
- From the Home screen, swipe up to open the app drawer. On some devices, tap the Apps icon instead.
- Scroll to Play Store, or use the search box at the top.
- Enter Play Store or Google Play.
- Tap the Google Play app in the results.
You can also use your device search or voice assistant and say “take me to the Google Play Store app” or “open Google Play app store.” The exact search controls vary by device maker and Android version.
If you often need to go to my Google Play app, press and hold the Play Store icon, then drag it to a convenient place on the Home screen. This creates a shortcut; it does not install another copy of the app.
Sign In to Your Google Account
You may be able to open and browse parts of Google Play without completing every account step, but a Google Account is required for account-based actions and access to items connected with that account.
- Open the Play Store app.
- If a sign-in screen appears, tap Sign in.
- Enter the email address or phone identifier already connected to your Google Account.
- Tap Next and enter your password.
- Complete any identity check shown on your device.
- Review the account displayed in the Play Store before continuing.
If more than one Google Account is already on the device, tap the profile picture or initial near the top of the Play Store. Select the account you want to use. Never enter another person’s account details unless that person is present and has chosen to sign in.
If the Google Play Store Is Missing
The Play Store may be hidden, disabled, restricted by an administrator, or unavailable on an unsupported device. Some Android-based devices do not include Google Play services. The Apple App Store is also not a place to get the Android Play Store app.
Try these safe checks:
- Search the app drawer for Play Store and Google Play.
- Open Settings, then Apps or Applications. Choose the option that shows all apps and look for Google Play Store.
- If its page shows Enable, tap it. If it shows Disable, the app is already enabled.
- Restart the device after enabling the app.
- Check parental controls, work-profile rules, or school and employer management settings.
- Install available Android system updates through the device’s Settings.
If you searched for “go Google Play Store download,” avoid unofficial download pages and installation files. They can be unsafe and may not work with your device. Use the device maker’s support options if Google Play Store is absent from the complete Settings app list.
A supervised, work, or school device may block the store by policy. Only the parent or organization managing that device may be able to restore it. Do not remove management settings unless you own the device and understand the effect.
Restore Access to Your Account
If the app opens but you cannot sign in, first check the email address or phone identifier for typing errors. Make sure Caps Lock is not changing the password and that the device has a working internet connection.
For a forgotten password, select Forgot password? on the Google sign-in screen. Follow the prompts and give the most accurate answers you can. Google may ask you to confirm information or use a recovery method already connected to the account.
If you do not remember the account name, choose the option for finding an email address on the sign-in screen. Start recovery from a familiar device and location when possible. Do not share passwords or verification codes with anyone offering to recover the account for you.
After changing a password, return to the Play Store and sign in again. If the account belongs to a workplace or school, contact that organization’s administrator because its recovery process may be controlled separately.
Google Play Store or Apple App Store
Use Google Play Store on supported Android devices. Use Apple’s App Store on an iPhone or iPad. If you are wondering whether to “go to the App Store or Google Play,” check the type of device in your hand before following any steps.
- Android phone or tablet: look for Play Store or the Google Play app.
- iPhone or iPad: look for the blue App Store icon.
Requests such as “take me to Google Play app,” “take me to Google Play app store,” “take me to the Google Play app,” and “go to Google Play app store” all refer to the Android store. “Take me to Google Play Store app” and “go to the Google Play Store app” mean the same thing. On an Apple device, use the Apple App Store instead; Google Play Store cannot be opened as the device’s app marketplace.
