JCPL Outage Status and Reporting Guide
Check the JCP&L Outage Status
Open {site} and choose the outage map or outage status option. The official tool shows areas where a JCP&L outage has been reported and may display the number of affected customers, the outage boundary, and available restoration information.
- Enter the service address or select the affected area on the JCP&L outage map.
- Check whether the location is inside a marked outage area.
- Select the outage marker or status panel to view the latest available details.
- Note the time of the last update and any estimated restoration information.
The map is a status tool, not proof that every affected address has already been reported. A new JCP&L power outage may take time to appear while reports are being received and assessed. Refresh the tool later if the interruption has just started.
If the map will not load, try reopening the page, switching browsers, or turning off a private network connection that may interfere with location tools. You can also search by the full service address instead of relying on your phone’s location.
Report a Power Outage
Use the official outage-reporting option on {site}, sign in to the customer account if prompted, or use another verified reporting channel shown in the company’s contact block. Reporting the outage helps connect the interruption to the correct service location.
Have the following information ready:
- The full street address where electric service is out.
- The name associated with the electric account.
- An account identifier, if the reporting system requests one.
- A callback or notification method that can receive updates.
- Details about what you observed, such as flickering power, a damaged pole, or whether nearby properties also appear dark.
Follow the confirmation steps until the system states that the report was received. Do not assume that selecting an address or viewing the JCPL outage status automatically submits a report. Save any confirmation reference or take a screenshot if one is provided.
If you cannot access the account, look for a guest reporting option or use a verified outage-reporting channel. Enter the service location carefully; a mailing address or former address may lead to the wrong property.
Track Restoration Updates
Return to the official JCP&L outage status tool and check the same service location. If you enrolled in outage notifications, also review new messages sent through your selected channel. Restoration information may appear after the outage is assessed, so an estimate might not be available immediately.
Compare the current estimate with the most recent update you saved. A different restoration time, a revised status message, or a newer update timestamp means the information has changed. Treat the newest official status as current, even if an earlier alert showed something different.
An estimate is not a guarantee. Conditions found during inspection or repair can change the work required. If power returns briefly and then fails again, check the JCP&L outage map and submit another report if the service location is no longer shown as affected.
What to Do If Your Outage Is Not Listed
First, check whether the problem is limited to the property. Look from a safe location to see whether nearby buildings or streetlights have power. Check the electrical panel for a tripped breaker only if the panel is dry, undamaged, and safe to reach. Reset a breaker once by moving it fully off and then on. Do not keep resetting it if it trips again.
If the entire property remains without power, report the JCPL power outage through an official channel even when no marker appears on the map. Use the exact service address and complete the process until you receive confirmation.
If only part of the property is affected, unplug sensitive equipment and check the panel. Contact a qualified electrician when breakers appear normal but the issue remains. If there is burning, smoke, sparking, heat, or damaged electrical equipment, leave the area and treat it as an emergency.
Outage Alerts and Notifications
Sign in to the official customer account and review the contact and notification settings. Confirm that the mobile number or email address on file is current, then check whether outage alerts are enabled for the correct service location.
Supported choices may vary by account. Follow the options displayed in the official account rather than relying on an old message or saved instructions. If you manage more than one property, verify which address each alert covers.
Official alerts should match activity shown in the account or outage tool. Be cautious with unexpected messages that request passwords, payment details, or sensitive account information. Instead of replying or opening an unfamiliar destination, access the account through the normal official route and check the JCP&L outage status there.
Downed Lines and Electrical Emergencies
Stay far away from every downed or hanging line. Treat it as energized even if it is not sparking or moving. Keep other people and pets away, and never touch the line or anything it contacts, including trees, fences, vehicles, puddles, or utility equipment.
- Do not drive over a fallen line or try to move it.
- Do not approach damaged poles, transformers, or electrical cabinets.
- Call emergency services when there is immediate danger, fire, injury, or a line blocking a public area.
- Report damaged utility equipment through JCP&L’s verified emergency or outage channel.
If a line falls on a vehicle, remain inside unless fire or another immediate threat makes staying more dangerous. Warn others not to approach and contact emergency services. Follow the dispatcher’s instructions rather than attempting to inspect the damage yourself.
