To use the IRS transcript login, open {site}, choose Get Your Tax Record, and select the option to access an Individual Online Account. Sign in through ID.me, then open Tax Records and choose the transcripts link to view, download, or print the record you need.
An IRS transcript is a summary of information from a tax return or IRS account; it is not a photocopy of the original return.
Where is the official IRS transcript login?
Start at {site} instead of following a link from an email, text message, advertisement, or unexpected search result. On the IRS site, look for Get Your Tax Record or Get Transcript and then the option for online access.
The official process moves from the IRS service to ID.me for secure sign-in and identity verification. ID.me is the credential provider used for access to an IRS Individual Online Account. Check that the page clearly identifies the IRS service before entering personal information.
The IRS says it does not initiate email, text, or social-media contact asking someone to sign in to obtain a transcript or update a profile. Leave any page that asks for credentials after an unsolicited message and restart from the official IRS site.
How do I sign in to get an IRS transcript?
- Select the option to sign in to an IRS Individual Online Account.
- Choose Sign in with ID.me and enter the email address and password connected to your existing ID.me account.
- Complete multifactor authentication, which is an additional check used to confirm that the person entering the password is the account owner.
- Approve access to the IRS service if ID.me presents a consent screen.
- Continue to the Individual Online Account after authentication succeeds.
A new user must create an ID.me account and verify their identity. Be ready with a personal email address, a unique password, a Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, and an accepted government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license, state ID, passport, or passport card. Self-service verification may also require a smartphone or computer with a camera for a selfie.
An existing ID.me account used with another participating government service may work for the IRS login transcript process. Each taxpayer should use their own account and should not share sign-in credentials.
How do I get an IRS transcript online after signing in?
- Open the Tax Records area in the IRS Individual Online Account.
- Select the link for transcripts.
- Choose the requested tax year and transcript type.
- Open the transcript and review the heading to confirm the year and type.
- Use the device or browser controls to save, download, or print the document.
A tax return transcript shows most items from the original return but generally does not show later changes. A tax account transcript shows basic account information and changes made after filing. A record of account combines return and account information. A wage and income transcript shows information reported to the IRS on documents such as Forms W-2 and 1099. A verification of non-filing letter states that the IRS has no processed return on record as of the request date.
If an older year is not initially visible for a tax account transcript, look for a control labeled Show all. Availability depends on the transcript type, year, and account circumstances.
What should I do if the IRS transcript login does not work?
- Rejected email or password: Check for typing errors and confirm that the email belongs to the existing ID.me account. Do not repeatedly guess a password.
- Verification code does not arrive: Confirm that the selected authentication method is available, check filtered messages, and use another previously configured method if ID.me offers one.
- Identity verification fails: Make sure the photo ID is current, readable, and entered exactly as shown. Follow the ID.me prompts for another verification option when offered.
- Account is locked: Stop repeated attempts and use the recovery or unlock option displayed by ID.me.
- Page loops, freezes, or remains blank: Close extra sign-in tabs, enable cookies and JavaScript, turn off content blockers for the session, or try a current browser. Restart from the IRS site after clearing an incomplete session.
IRS error messages may identify a name mismatch, a missing Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, or a security condition that prevents online access. Follow the alternative displayed with the error instead of changing personal details merely to make them pass.
How do I recover access to my IRS transcript account?
- Return to the official IRS account sign-in flow and select Sign in with ID.me.
- Use the ID.me password-reset option if the password is forgotten.
- Enter the email address associated with the account and follow the message sent by ID.me.
- Complete the required authentication or recovery checks.
- Use ID.me’s account-access help if the email address or configured authentication method is no longer available.
Do not create multiple accounts to work around a sign-in problem. If an attempt to create an account reveals that one already exists, return to password recovery. For unresolved identity checks, follow the official ID.me option for additional documents or verification with a video chat agent when it is presented.
How else can I request an IRS transcript?
If an IRS transcript log in is unavailable, the IRS offers Get Transcript by Mail for tax return and tax account transcripts. This method requires information that matches IRS records, including the mailing address from the latest filed return.
Form 4506-T, Request for Transcript of Tax Return, can be used to request the transcript types listed on the form, including records or years that may not be available through another method. Form 4506-T-EZ is intended only for an individual tax return transcript. Use the current form and its current submission instructions from the IRS.
A transcript is different from a complete copy of a filed return. Someone who needs the original return and its attachments should review the separate IRS procedure for requesting a copy rather than selecting a transcript.
Where can I get help with an IRS transcript login?
Use the IRS help material for creating an online account and the official transcript-services frequently asked questions for problems involving transcript availability or mail requests. Use the ID.me Help Center for password resets, locked accounts, multifactor authentication, document uploads, or identity-verification failures.
Before requesting support, have the account email address, the exact error message, the device and browser used, and the verification step that failed. Keep a government-issued photo ID available if identity verification is involved, but never send credentials or identity documents through an unverified message. For transcript questions, also note the requested tax year and transcript type without including sensitive taxpayer information in an ordinary support message.
