IRD Login and Website Access Help

Where is the official IRD login page?

Open {site} and select the myIR login option to reach the official IRD account sign-in page. The official IRD website identifies the agency as Inland Revenue and uses New Zealand government branding.

Do not sign in through a link in an unexpected email, text message, advertisement, or search result. A copied page can look convincing while collecting usernames and passwords. Start from the verified site marker on this page, then confirm that your browser shows a secure connection before entering account details.

The online account is called myIR. An IRD login or IRD website login search should ultimately lead to the official Inland Revenue service, not a third-party support page. Save the verified page as a browser bookmark if you expect to return regularly.

How do you log in to an IRD account?

IRD uses a myIR user ID, also called a username, logon, or myIR ID. Two-step verification is an additional identity check using a one-time security code after the main sign-in details are accepted.

  1. Open the verified IRD website and choose the myIR login option.
  2. Enter your myIR user ID and password in the fields shown.
  3. Complete two-step verification when prompted. Depending on the methods already attached to the account, the code may come by email, text message, or an authenticator app.
  4. If the account uses a passkey, follow the device prompt to verify with the saved passkey instead of entering the usual username and password.
  5. After verification succeeds, wait for the myIR account page to finish loading before selecting another option.

A security code is specific to one sign-in attempt. If several verification methods are already set up, select the option for using another method when the first one is unavailable.

How do first-time users register for myIR?

Eligible first-time users register for a personal myIR account through the official Inland Revenue website. Before starting, have the account holder’s IRD number or customer identifier, date of birth, name, email address, and a mobile number if available.

  1. On the official website, choose the option to register for myIR.
  2. Create the requested web name. This is the name displayed inside myIR and is separate from the user ID.
  3. Create an available myIR user ID and record it securely.
  4. Enter the requested contact details and choose how to receive account notifications.
  5. Follow the onscreen identity and activation instructions. Text activation is available only when the mobile number provided matches the number Inland Revenue holds for the person.
  6. Use the official activation message and password-creation instructions to finish setup.
  7. Set up two-step verification when prompted, using one or more available methods.

If an IRD number contains eight digits, Inland Revenue instructs users to place a zero at the beginning during registration. If the supplied information does not match IRD records, stop and use the official contact process rather than repeatedly changing personal details.

What should you do if you forgot your IRD username or password?

Use the “Forgot user ID or password?” option on the official myIR login page. Do not use a recovery link sent by an unknown source.

To recover a username, select the forgotten-username option, enter the IRD number or customer identifier, and verify the registered email address. If the details match Inland Revenue’s records, the username is sent to that email address.

To reset a password, provide the myIR user ID and the email address registered to that logon. Inland Revenue sends the password-reset instructions to that address. Check the spam or junk folder if the message is not visible, but do not disclose a reset link or code to anyone.

If both details are forgotten, recover the username first and then begin the password reset. After several incorrect sign-in attempts, the account may be temporarily locked. Stop retrying, wait for the login screen to allow another attempt, and recover the credentials if they remain uncertain.

What should you do when the IRD website login fails?

First identify where the IRD login stops: before the page loads, after the password is entered, or at the security-code screen. That distinction helps avoid unnecessary password resets.

  • The page does not load: Check the phone’s connection, reload once, and try another current browser. Use the official website’s notices or status information to check availability instead of assuming there is an outage.
  • The page keeps returning to sign-in: Close duplicate myIR tabs, allow cookies, and restart the browser. Private browsing, blocked cookies, or an expired session can prevent the login state from being retained.
  • The email code does not arrive: Request another code, check spam or junk folders, and confirm that the correct email inbox is open. Choose another two-step verification method if one was previously configured.
  • A text or authenticator code fails: Use only the newest code shown or received. Confirm that the phone’s date and time are set automatically before retrying an authenticator code.
  • A trusted device is no longer recognized: Complete verification again. Clearing browser cookies, changing browsers, or using another device can remove the stored trusted-device recognition.
  • Only one verification method is configured and it is inaccessible: Contact official myIR support. The account owner must request help resetting that verification method.

Never send a password, passkey, or one-time security code to someone offering to fix the account.

How do you contact IRD about login help?

Open {site}, find the Contact us section, and choose the category for myIR or login difficulties. Use only the support channels displayed there because contact details and availability can change.

Before requesting help, prepare the account holder’s full name, IRD number or customer identifier, myIR user ID if known, and the registered email address. Also note the exact error message, the step where login stopped, the browser and device used, and which two-step verification method failed.

Do not send a password or one-time security code in a message. Inland Revenue may need to confirm identity, but legitimate support should not require disclosure of the account password.
