To sign in to Google Play, open the Play Store or Google Play website and choose the Google account you want to use. To sign out of Google Play on Android, remove the Google account from the device; on the web, open the account menu and select Sign out.
What do you need before signing in to Google Play?
Have the following ready before starting Google Play account sign-in:
- A Google account and its email address or phone number.
- The correct password for that Google account.
- Access to any phone, security key, or other method used for two-step verification. Two-step verification is an extra identity check after the password.
- An internet connection.
- An Android device for the Play Store app, or a supported browser on Android, iPhone, iPad, or a computer.
Google Play uses a Google account rather than a separate Play Store username and password. On an iPhone or iPad, use Google Play through a browser when the required Play Store feature is not available as an iOS app.
How do you sign in to Google Play?
To sign in to Google Play from the Play Store app on Android:
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- If a Google account is already on the device, tap the profile picture or initial in the upper corner.
- Select the account you want to use, or choose the option to add another account.
- Enter the Google account email address or phone number when prompted.
- Enter the password and complete any verification request.
- Return to the Play Store and confirm that the correct account appears in the profile menu.
If no Google account is connected to the Android device, the Play Store normally asks you to add one when it opens. Menu names can vary by Android device and software version.
To complete a Google Play login in a browser:
- Open {site} in a browser.
- Select the profile icon or sign-in option near the upper corner.
- Enter the Google account email address or phone number.
- Enter the password.
- Complete two-step verification if Google requests it.
- Check the profile icon to confirm which account is active.
How do you sign out of Google Play?
The Google Play sign-out steps depend on whether you are using the Android app or a browser.
On the Google Play website:
- Select the profile picture or initial near the upper corner.
- Choose Sign out.
- If several accounts are listed, choose the option to sign out of one account or all accounts, depending on what the page shows.
The Android Play Store does not normally have a separate sign-out button. To log out of Google Play on Android, remove the Google account from the device:
- Open the device Settings app.
- Find Accounts, Passwords and accounts, Users and accounts, or a similarly named section.
- Select the Google account connected to Google Play.
- Choose Remove account.
- Confirm the removal if asked.
Removing a Google account from Android is broader than signing out of the Play Store. It also removes that account’s synced Google information from the device, including data used by other Google apps. It does not delete the Google account itself, and the account can be added again later.
How do you switch Google Play accounts without signing out?
You can switch a Google Play account without removing the account that is already on the Android device:
- Open the Play Store.
- Tap the profile picture or initial.
- Tap the account selector beside the current account name.
- Choose another listed Google account.
- If the account is not listed, choose Add another account and follow the sign-in prompts.
In a browser, select the profile icon and choose another signed-in account. If the required account is missing, choose the option to add an account. Always check the displayed email address afterward so you know which Google Play account is active.
What should you do when Google Play sign-in does not work?
For Google Play account sign-in problems, identify the message on the screen and try the matching fix:
- Wrong password: Check spelling, capitalization, and the selected email address. Enter the password manually if saved credentials may be outdated.
- Two-factor prompt: Check the trusted device or verification method connected to the Google account. If a prompt does not appear, use another verification option shown on the sign-in screen.
- Play Store will not update or open correctly: Restart the device, confirm the internet connection, and install available Android and Play Store updates. Settings and update labels vary by device.
- Sync error: Open the device’s account settings, select the Google account, and review its sync status. Restarting the device can also restart a stalled sync.
- Repeated sign-in request: Confirm that the device date and time are correct, then try the sign-in again. If needed, remove and re-add the account only after considering the effect on other Google apps.
How do you reset a forgotten Google Play password?
A Google Play forgot-password request uses Google Account recovery because Google Play does not have a separate password.
- Start signing in with the email address or phone number for the Google account.
- Select Forgot password? on the Google sign-in screen.
- Answer the identity questions and use an available recovery method.
- Create a new password when Google confirms the account.
- Return to Google Play and sign in with the new password.
Use a familiar device and location when possible. If Google cannot verify the account immediately, follow the recovery choices presented on the screen rather than creating a different account.
How do you contact Google Play Support?
If these steps do not resolve the issue, open {site} and look for Help or Help Center. Select the topic that matches sign-in, account access, or Play Store problems, then use any support option offered for that issue.
For a locked account, forgotten password, or failed identity check, choose Google Account recovery help rather than a general Play Store topic. Do not share a password or verification code with anyone claiming to provide support.
