Is Google Authenticator Available for PC?
Google does not provide an official Google Authenticator app for Windows PCs or desktop computers. The officially supported app is available for Android phones and for iPhone and iPad.
This means searches such as “google authenticator app for pc,” “google authenticator app pc,” or “download google authenticator for pc” may lead to software that Google did not publish. A result labeled “Google Authenticator for Windows” does not become official simply because it uses Google's name or logo.
You can still sign in to an account on your PC. Open the account's sign-in page on the computer, then read the current verification code from Google Authenticator on your phone and enter it on the PC. The phone does not need mobile service or an internet connection to generate an existing code.

Install Google Authenticator only through the store built into your Android or Apple device. Search for the app in that store and confirm that Google is identified as the developer or provider. Google's Account Help pages also contain an “Install Google Authenticator” option that leads to the appropriate official store.

Using Google Authenticator Codes on a Computer
The official method uses the mobile app alongside the PC:

- When asked for an authenticator code, open Google Authenticator on the phone.
- Choose the entry that matches the account and service shown on the PC.
- Enter the current code before it changes.
Some accounts also offer another approved second step, such as a passkey, security key, sign-in prompt, or previously created backup code. Select “Try another way” or similar wording on the account's verification screen to see methods already attached to that account.
A computer remembered as trusted may not request a code every time. Use that option only on a private computer you control, never on a public or shared PC.
Set Up Google Authenticator Safely
Start from the security or two-step verification settings of the account you want to protect. Choose the option to add an authenticator app. The service will normally display a QR code and may also offer a setup key.
- Open the official Google Authenticator app on your phone.
- Choose the option to add a code.
- Scan the QR code displayed on your PC, or enter the setup key directly in the mobile app.
- Enter the generated verification code only into the account's official setup screen.
- Finish setup and confirm that the authenticator method is active.
The QR code and setup key contain a shared secret. Anyone who copies one may be able to generate valid codes. Do not save them in screenshots, paste them into messages, or show them to support staff. Keep backup codes private and separate from the phone.
Before signing out, add another recovery method permitted by the account and test the new Authenticator entry. Never remove an existing working method until the replacement works.
Transfer or Restore Authenticator Accounts
If your codes are synchronized to your Google Account, installing the official app on a new supported mobile device and signing in with the same Google Account can synchronize them. Check that every expected entry appears before erasing or resetting the old phone.
If you use Authenticator without a Google Account, use the app's official transfer feature while you still have the old phone. On the old device, open the menu, choose “Transfer accounts,” then “Export accounts.” On the new device, choose the import option and scan the transfer QR code directly. Keep that QR code away from cameras and other people.
If the old phone is unavailable and the codes were not synchronized, Authenticator cannot recreate each service's secret by itself. Use a backup method supplied by the affected account. Otherwise, begin recovery with that service through its official sign-in or Help area. Work or school users may need their administrator.
For a lost or stolen phone, secure the device and the Google Account promptly. Review signed-in devices through Google Account security settings. For unsynchronized entries, contact each affected service through its official support or recovery process and replace the authenticator setup after access is restored.
Troubleshoot Verification Codes
If a code is rejected, wait for a fresh code and enter it promptly. Confirm that you selected the entry for the correct service, username, and account. A code from a similarly named entry will not work.
Set the phone's date, time, and time zone to update automatically. Current versions of Google Authenticator rely on the mobile operating system's time setting, so an incorrect device clock can produce invalid codes.
- Retype the newest code and check for transposed digits.
- Use “Try another way” to look for a configured passkey, security key, prompt, backup phone, or unused backup code.
- If codes disappeared, check whether Authenticator is signed in to the expected Google Account or whether they were stored without an account.
- If only one service rejects codes, use that service's own account-recovery or support area.
- If a Google Account is inaccessible, follow the account-recovery prompts provided through Google's official sign-in process.
Never send a verification code, backup code, QR code, or setup key to someone claiming they can restore the account. Legitimate recovery is completed through the affected service's own verification process.
