To complete a GMU email login, open the official George Mason University website and choose the Microsoft 365 email option. Sign in with your full GMU email address, your Patriot Pass password, and any requested Duo verification.

A Mason NetID is the username assigned to you for George Mason systems. It is not the same as your G Number, and your GMU email address normally uses the format [email protected].

Where is the official GMU email login?

Open {site} and find the email or Microsoft 365 sign-in option. An official GMU page may transfer you to a Microsoft sign-in screen, but you should begin from the university website instead of using a login address copied from an advertisement, email, text message, or third-party directory.

Before entering credentials, check that the page identifies George Mason University or Microsoft as the sign-in provider. If a page asks for information that is not normally part of the GMU login process, close it and start again from the official site.

Search phrases such as “gmu email login,” “gmu login email,” and “gmu email log in” can produce unofficial results. Do not enter your Patriot Pass password on a page merely because its title contains those words.

How do I sign in to GMU email?

  1. Open the official GMU email page from {site}.
  2. Select the Microsoft 365, Office 365, or email sign-in option shown by GMU.
  3. Enter your full George Mason email address in the form [email protected]. Use the address assigned to you, not your G Number or a personal email address.
  4. Select Next or the equivalent button.
  5. Enter your Patriot Pass password on the George Mason authentication screen.
  6. Complete the Duo prompt if multi-factor authentication is requested. Multi-factor authentication, or MFA, confirms your identity with a second method in addition to your password.
  7. Wait for Outlook or your GMU mailbox to open before closing the sign-in window.

If you are trying to access another GMU portal rather than email, use the login instructions displayed by that portal. A standard gmu login commonly uses the NetID and Patriot Pass password, but the username field may specify whether it expects the NetID alone or the full GMU email address.

What if I forgot my GMU password or username?

Use George Mason’s official Patriot Pass Password Management service for a forgotten or expired password. Reach it through the account or password-help area of the official GMU website rather than through a link sent by an unknown person.

  1. Choose the option for an expired or forgotten password.
  2. Follow the identity prompts shown by GMU. The official process may require your G Number.
  3. Create a new Patriot Pass password when the system permits it.
  4. Return to the official email page and try the gmu log in again with the new password.

If you forgot your NetID, choose the option labeled “Where do I find my NetID?” in the official password-management service. GMU’s documented lookup asks for a G Number and date of birth. Remember that the NetID is your username, while the G Number is a separate university identifier.

If the account is locked, the lookup fails, or you cannot complete the displayed recovery checks, contact GMU Information Technology Services. Do not repeatedly guess passwords, and do not use a third-party password-recovery service.

What if the GMU Duo prompt or verification method is unavailable?

Duo is George Mason’s system for approving a sign-in with a registered device or another configured method. First check the Duo prompt for another method you previously registered, such as a different device or an available call option.

  • If no prompt appears, confirm that the browser has not blocked or hidden the authentication window, then reload the official sign-in page once.
  • If a push notification does not arrive, open Duo Mobile directly and check the phone’s internet connection and notification settings.
  • If you have access to your alternate email address, use GMU’s official 2FA management area to request an emergency bypass code. GMU describes this as a one-time code with a limited validity period.
  • If every registered device is unavailable, use GMU’s official 2FA Account Reset Request process or contact ITS Support.
  • If you changed phones but retained another working verification method, open the official 2FA management area and follow GMU’s instructions to reactivate Duo Mobile.

Approve only a verification request that you initiated. Never send a Duo code, bypass code, QR code, or approval to another person, including someone claiming to be support staff.

How do I fix common GMU login errors?

  • Incorrect username: For email, enter the full [email protected] address. Do not substitute your G Number or personal email.
  • Incorrect password: Make sure you are using the Patriot Pass password associated with your NetID. Check capitalization and remove any accidental spaces.
  • Repeated redirects: Close every GMU and Microsoft sign-in tab, reopen the browser, and start from the official GMU email page.
  • Expired session: Close the error page and begin a fresh login instead of repeatedly refreshing an old sign-in screen.
  • Browser problem: Clear cookies and cached data for the affected sign-in pages, or try a private window or another current browser.
  • Wrong Microsoft account: Sign out of any personal or workplace Microsoft account already open in the browser, then enter the GMU address again.
  • Access or mailbox error: Record the exact error message and contact GMU ITS Support. Account status and service access must be checked by the university.

How do I contact GMU technical support about account access?

Use the ITS Support section on George Mason’s official website. The ITS Support Center is the appropriate starting point for problems with GMU email, Patriot Pass credentials, Duo authentication, locked accounts, and university computing access.

Have your full name, NetID, G Number if requested through an official verification process, the affected service, the exact error message, and the approximate time the problem occurred ready. Also note the device and browser you used and the troubleshooting steps you already tried.

Do not include your password, Duo approval, verification code, emergency bypass code, or recovery answers in an email, chat message, or support ticket. Legitimate troubleshooting does not require you to disclose those secrets.
