Where do I sign in to Gmail?
For a Gmail sign in, open {site} and select Sign in. Enter Gmail credentials only on a page that identifies itself as a Google sign-in page.
In a browser, the official Gmail page sends you to the Google Account sign-in screen. If you start from a Google app, tap your profile picture or account icon, then choose the option to add or manage an account.
Before continuing, check that the screen belongs to Google. Do not enter your Gmail address or password on a page reached through an unexpected message, attachment, or pop-up.
How do I sign in to Gmail step by step?
Your Gmail login uses your Google Account credentials. Two-step verification is an extra identity check after the password, such as a prompt on a trusted device or a security code.
- Open the official Gmail sign-in page through {site}, or open the Gmail app.
- Select Sign in or Add another account if Gmail is already showing a different account.
- Enter your full Gmail address. You may also be able to enter the phone number associated with the Google Account.
- Select Next and check that the account shown is yours.
- Enter your password. Passwords are case-sensitive, so check capitalization and make sure extra spaces were not added.
- Select Next.
- If two-step verification appears, complete the method offered on the screen. This may involve approving a Google prompt, entering a code, or using another method previously set up for the account.
- After verification, Gmail should open the inbox for the selected account.
On a shared device, avoid saving the password and sign out when finished. On your own device, Google may keep the account signed in until you remove it or sign out.
Is Gmail login different on mobile and desktop?
Gmail uses the same Google Account on mobile and desktop, but the screens and account controls differ.
- Gmail app: Open the app, tap the profile picture or account icon, and choose the option to add another account. Select Google as the account type when asked, then follow the Google sign-in prompts.
- Mobile browser: Open the official Gmail page and select Sign in. The page may look more compact than the desktop version, but it still asks for the username first and the password next.
- Desktop browser: Open Gmail and select Sign in. If another account appears, choose Use another account before entering your own address.
Adding a Google Account to a phone may make that account available to other Google apps on the same device. Read each device prompt before agreeing to synchronization or other account settings.
What do Gmail sign-in error messages mean?
A Gmail login message usually identifies which part of the sign-in check failed. Read the complete message before trying again.
- Wrong password: Google did not accept the password entered for that account. Check capitalization, keyboard language, and whether a password manager filled credentials for a different account. If the password is still rejected, use account recovery instead of repeatedly guessing.
- Couldn’t find your Google Account: The email address or phone number does not match an account Google can identify. Check spelling, or use the username recovery option.
- Account disabled or locked: Access has been restricted. Follow the instructions shown by Google because the required review depends on the message and account status.
- Unrecognized device or unusual sign-in: Google needs more evidence that the person signing in owns the account. Try a familiar device, browser, and location, then complete the identity checks offered.
- Verification prompt or code did not arrive: Confirm that the trusted device has a connection and that the displayed account is correct. Select Try another way to see only the verification methods available for that account.
Do not share a verification code with anyone who contacts you. A code is meant to be entered only into Google’s own verification screen during a sign-in attempt you started.
How do I recover a forgotten Gmail password or username?
Use Google’s official account recovery flow when a Gmail password or username is forgotten. Account recovery asks questions designed to confirm ownership; it does not reveal the existing password.
- On the Google sign-in screen, select Forgot password? If the email address is forgotten, select Forgot email?
- Enter the Gmail address, recovery phone number, or recovery email requested on the screen.
- Answer each question as accurately as possible. Use a device and browser previously used with the account when available.
- Complete any verification step Google offers. The available choices depend on the recovery information already attached to the account.
- If Google confirms ownership, follow the on-screen instructions to create a new password or identify the username.
- After access returns, review the recovery email, recovery phone, signed-in devices, and two-step verification settings.
If one recovery method is unavailable, select Try another way when that choice appears. Google may not show every method for every account, and support representatives cannot bypass the ownership checks.
How can I contact Google about a Gmail login problem?
For persistent Gmail sign-in trouble, use Google Account Help and the Gmail Help Center. Choose the topic that matches the exact message on the screen, such as a forgotten password, disabled account, suspicious sign-in, or two-step verification problem.
The official Google Account Help Community can provide general troubleshooting from product experts and other users. Do not post passwords, verification codes, backup codes, or private recovery details in a public question.
Some account types provide help through an organization. If the Gmail address belongs to an employer, school, or other managed organization, contact that organization’s administrator because the administrator may control passwords and sign-in policies. For a personal Gmail account, the official recovery process remains the main route for proving ownership and restoring access.
