Open {site} and choose the FMCSA Portal sign-in option to reach the official federal service. Most motor carriers, company users, and state partners sign in with Login.gov, while federal DOT employees and contractors use MyAccess.
What is the official FMCSA login page?
The safest starting point for an FMCSA dot gov login is {site}. Follow the portal option shown there instead of opening a result from an advertisement, email, text message, or unfamiliar website.
Before entering credentials, inspect the browser address bar. The active government page should use a secure connection, and the destination should belong to FMCSA or the federal authentication service named on the portal. A padlock only shows that the connection is encrypted; it does not prove that an unfamiliar domain is legitimate.
People may search for phrases such as “fmcsa.dot.gov login,” “portal fmcsa dot gov login,” “fmcsa dot gov portal,” “https portal fmcsa dot gov login,” or “www fmcsa dot gov login.” Treat those phrases as search wording, not as addresses to type or copy. Open the verified site marker on this page and check the final destination before entering an email address, password, PIN, or security code.
How do you sign in to the FMCSA Portal?
Login.gov is the federal sign-in service used by non-federal FMCSA Portal users. Multifactor authentication means confirming a password with another method that was previously added to the account, such as an authentication application, security key, phone code, face or touch unlock, or backup code.
- Open the verified FMCSA site and select the option for the FMCSA Portal.
- On the portal login page, select “Sign in with Login.gov” if you are a motor carrier, company user, or state partner. Federal DOT employees and contractors should select MyAccess and use their approved PIV credentials.
- Enter the email address and password for the Login.gov account connected to the FMCSA Portal. FMCSA says the Login.gov email should match the email associated with the Portal account so the user roles link correctly.
- Complete the authentication prompt using a method already configured in Login.gov.
- After returning to the FMCSA Portal, choose the needed system from the available FMCSA systems shown for your account.
The old FMCSA Portal username-and-password method is no longer the standard sign-in route. Do not enter a USDOT number and PIN in place of Login.gov credentials on the regular login screen.
Which FMCSA system should you sign in to?
The FMCSA Portal is a gateway that provides authorized users with access to available agency systems and company information. It is not the same thing as every separate FMCSA database or public lookup tool.
Choose the FMCSA Portal when you need your organization’s authorized account, company record, assigned roles, or a system listed inside the portal.
Choose A&I or SMS from the available systems after signing in when your authorized work specifically requires those systems. A&I means Analysis and Information Online, while SMS means the Safety Measurement System.
Choose MyAccess only if you are a federal DOT employee or contractor directed to use a PIV card.
Use Login.gov for authentication when the FMCSA page sends a non-federal user there. A Login.gov account does not by itself create FMCSA Portal permissions or company roles.
Search variations such as “portal fmcsa dot gov,” “fmcsa.dot.gov portal,” “https portal fmcsa dot gov,” and “https www fmcsa dot gov login” generally express the same goal: reaching the official portal. Start from the verified FMCSA destination rather than guessing which system address is current.
What should you do when the FMCSA login does not work?
Rejected email or password: Confirm that you are entering Login.gov credentials, not an old FMCSA Portal password. Use the email associated with the Portal account and check for typing errors or unwanted spaces.
Authentication loop: Close duplicate login tabs, return to the verified FMCSA starting point, and try once in a single tab. If the loop continues, update the browser or try another current browser without private browsing.
Security code does not arrive: Check that the device is on and airplane mode is off. Use Login.gov’s resend control or select another authentication method that was already configured. Only use a code you requested, and never share it.
Portal opens without the expected role: Verify that the Login.gov email matches the FMCSA Portal email. A Company Official controls approval and access for associates connected to that company.
Disabled or archived Portal account: FMCSA states that inactivity can disable or archive an account. Contact the FMCSA Contact Center for help unlocking Portal access.
Page unavailable or browser error: Save the exact error text, note when it appeared, and try again from the official starting page. Do not repeatedly submit credentials to a page with an unexpected domain or certificate warning.
How do you recover FMCSA Portal access?
Password recovery now belongs to Login.gov because the FMCSA Portal no longer offers its own password-reset option for the standard sign-in process.
- At the Login.gov sign-in screen reached from FMCSA, select “Forgot your password?”
- Enter the Login.gov email address connected to the FMCSA Portal and continue.
- Open the password-reset message sent by Login.gov and follow its reset control.
- Create the new password, then sign in and complete the authentication step.
- If Login.gov asks you to reactivate a verified profile, follow its prompts and use the current personal key when available. A personal key is the code Login.gov supplies to protect identity information.
If you lost a phone but previously added another authentication method, select the option to use a different security method. If every authentication method is unavailable, follow Login.gov’s official locked-account instructions; Login.gov warns that support cannot bypass its security controls. For an FMCSA role, company association, USDOT PIN, disabled Portal account, or email-linking problem, contact FMCSA rather than trying to solve it through a Login.gov password reset.
How do you contact FMCSA Portal support?
Use the verified contact block displayed above this article for the current FMCSA Contact Center channels and service hours. The official FMCSA contact page identifies the Contact Center as the source of help with Portal access and USDOT PIN issues. Available verified channels include telephone support, an online question form, and customer-service chat; this article does not repeat contact details because the page’s verified block is kept current.
Contact FMCSA when the Portal account is disabled or archived, the correct Login.gov account returns without the expected FMCSA role, a Company Official association cannot be resolved, or an official page reports a persistent system error. Contact Login.gov for its password-reset or authentication-method problems.
Have the account email, USDOT number when applicable, account type, exact error message, browser and device type, and the approximate time of the failure ready. Never send a password, one-time code, backup code, personal key, or full identity document in an ordinary support message.
