How to Report a DTE Outage Online
Open {site} and go to the Outage Center. Select Report Outage to start a DTE outage report. Do not assume DTE already knows that power is out at your location. Customer reports help identify affected homes and define the extent of an outage.
- Choose the option to report a power outage.
- Enter the service address or the phone number associated with the DTE account.
- Confirm that the location shown is the place without power.
- Select the type of problem you are experiencing. Report partial power, unusually bright or dim lights, or flickering if the form offers those choices.
- Add any requested details, review the report, and submit it.
- Keep the confirmation or status information displayed after submission.
If the system cannot identify the location, check the spelling, apartment or unit information, and ZIP code. You can also try the phone number linked to the account. Avoid submitting reports for nearby addresses unless you are responsible for those locations.
DTE Outage Reporting Phone Number
The verified DTE outage phone number appears in the contact block above this article. Use that number for power outages and power-line problems. This page does not repeat contact numbers because the verified block is maintained from DTE's official information.
Before calling, have the affected service address ready. If available, also have the name on the account, the phone number associated with it, and your account information. Be prepared to say whether the entire property has lost power, only part of it is affected, or lights are flickering or unusually bright or dim.
If you see a downed or damaged line, mention it immediately and describe its location from a safe distance. Do not approach the line to inspect it. The DTE report outage number is for reporting the utility problem; call emergency services when someone is in immediate danger, a fire has started, or a life-threatening situation exists.
Check the Current Outage Status
Open the Outage Center through {site}. Choose Check Outage Status to look up a specific service location, or View Outage Map to review known incidents in a wider area.
For location-specific results, search with the affected address. The map can also be searched or filtered by address, ZIP code, or county. Select the relevant outage area to see the information currently available. Depending on the incident, the tool may show that DTE knows about the outage, the number of customers affected, restoration progress, or an estimated restoration time.
An estimate is not a guaranteed deadline. Damage assessment, unsafe conditions, weather, and the work required can change it. During a major event, an estimate may not appear immediately. Refresh the status later rather than relying on an old screenshot or a neighbor's update.
Report an Outage Without Signing In
You can report an outage through DTE's Outage Center without signing in to an online account. The official process can identify the service location using its address or the phone number associated with the DTE account.
Enter the details exactly as they appear on the account when possible. An apartment resident should include the correct unit information if the form requests it. If you are reporting for another person, make sure you have the correct service address and permission to use any account-related details.
Account access may still be useful for managing notification preferences, but it is not necessary for the basic dte outage reporting process. If the guest lookup does not recognize the location, use the verified outage phone contact shown above.
If the Outage Is Not Shown
Report the outage even when the map does not show an incident at your address. DTE states that customers should not assume every loss of power has already been detected. A new report may help identify a smaller or newly developing problem.
- Confirm that the outage affects more than one appliance or room.
- Check the breaker panel only if you can reach it safely and there are no signs of burning, water, heat, or damaged wiring.
- Submit a report for the exact service address.
- If an online report fails, use the verified DTE outage phone number in the contact block.
- If DTE says power has been restored but your location remains without power, report the outage again. Use any “still without power” option included in a DTE update when available.
If neighboring properties have power, the problem may still involve DTE equipment serving only your location. It could also be an issue inside the building. Do not open meters, electrical panels, or utility equipment to investigate.
Safety During a Power Outage
Treat every fallen or sagging power line as energized, even when it is quiet and does not spark. Stay at least 25 feet away. Keep children and pets back, warn others, and avoid anything touching the line, including trees, vehicles, fences, ladders, debris, and standing water.
- Never drive over a fallen line or cross a safety barrier.
- If a line falls on your vehicle, remain inside and call emergency services. Leave only if staying creates a more immediate danger, such as fire.
- Do not touch someone who is receiving an electrical shock. Contact emergency services and disconnect the source only if that can be done safely.
- Never put water on an electrical fire.
- Keep generators outdoors and away from windows, doors, and vents. Follow the manufacturer's instructions.
- Unplug heat-producing appliances so they do not create a fire risk when electricity returns.
Use emergency services for immediate threats to life, active fires, injuries, or other dangerous situations. Use DTE outage reporting for routine loss of power and to report utility equipment or line problems after you have moved to safety.
