What “SNAP” means

SNAP usually means the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. It is separate from Snapchat, the social app. A SNAP card is an Electronic Benefits Transfer card used to access approved food benefits.

If you searched for “snap[,” “snap],” “sna[p,” or “snap',” the extra character was probably a typing error. Decide whether you need food-benefit account help or Snapchat help before entering any account details.

A “SNAP number” can mean a case number, application number, client ID, or card number. These are not always the same. Check the label on your benefits notice or portal screen, and enter only the identifier requested. Do not post any of these numbers online.

SNAP sign-in and balance help

SNAP accounts are generally handled through the benefits portal for your state. Start at the official state agency website, then choose the option for benefits, an existing case, or account access. Do not assume that a search result using “SNAP portal” is official.

1. Have your username, password, and any case information requested by the portal ready.

Never send a PIN, password, or full card number through email or social media.

For Snapchat account access, start at the company’s official website. Make sure the page identifies itself as Snapchat before entering your username, email address, phone details, or password.

If sign-in fails, check for typing errors, confirm that you are using the intended account, and use Snapchat’s account-recovery option. Do not give a verification code or password to anyone claiming they can unlock the account.
