CommonLit Student Login

Start on the official CommonLit website. Open its login page by selecting “Log In” from the site menu. Avoid pages that ask for school credentials but are not part of CommonLit, Google, Clever, or another system approved by your school.

Before signing in, have the instructions from your teacher ready. Your account may use a CommonLit username and password, a school Google account, or Clever. The correct choice depends on how your school created the account.

  1. Open the official CommonLit login page.
  2. Select the student login method assigned by your teacher.
  3. Enter your username or email and password exactly as provided.
  4. Complete any account update shown after login.
  5. Open your assignments and confirm that the correct class appears.

Passwords are case-sensitive. Check capital letters, spaces, and similar-looking characters before trying again. The phrases commonlit student login, common lit student login, and commonlit login student all refer to this same student access process.

Sign In With Google or Clever

Select “Log in with Google” if your teacher says the account is connected to a school-issued Google account. Choose the exact Google account used by your school. A personal Google account may open a different CommonLit account or produce an error.

Select “Log in with Clever” when your school created or connected your account through Clever. You may also be able to open CommonLit from your Clever dashboard. Clever access will work only after the school has shared or linked the student account with CommonLit.

Do not switch methods just because one button looks easier. A CommonLit student sign in through Google or Clever must match the method assigned by the teacher or school. If you usually use Clever, typing an unrelated username into the regular form may not reach the same account.

If you do not know which option applies, ask your teacher before creating anything new. A second account can separate you from assignments already attached to your class.

Use a Class Code or Setup Link

A new student in a manually created class may receive a class code or student setup link from the teacher. Use the exact item provided for that class. A code from another class will not place you in the correct roster.

If you do not yet have an account, the official enrollment page may ask for the class code, your name, grade, an optional email, and a new password. Follow the teacher’s directions because the school may require a particular email or sign-in method.

If you already have a CommonLit account, sign in first. Open “My Account & Classes,” choose “Add class code” or “Add another class code,” and enter the new code. Do not create a second student account merely to join another class.

Students imported through Google Classroom or Clever generally should use the assigned linked login instead of enrolling again with a class code. If a setup link has expired, is incomplete, or opens the wrong class, ask the teacher for the current instructions.

Fix Common Login Problems

Use this checklist when a CommonLit student account login fails:

  • Retype the username and password instead of relying on an old saved entry.
  • Confirm that Caps Lock is off and remove accidental spaces.
  • Check whether the teacher assigned regular credentials, Google, or Clever.
  • For Google, select the school account connected to CommonLit rather than a personal account.
  • For Clever, begin from the school’s Clever dashboard if that is the normal classroom process.
  • Close extra CommonLit tabs, refresh the login page, or restart the browser.
  • Try a private browsing window or clear stored site data if the page keeps returning to the wrong account.
  • Make sure cookies and pop-ups required for the school sign-in window are not blocked.

On a school-managed device, browser settings, account switching, and outside sign-ins may be restricted. Do not try to bypass those controls. Ask a teacher or school technology administrator to check the device and account permissions.

If the page loads but your class or assignments are missing, you may have entered the wrong account. Sign out and use the method your teacher confirmed. This is a common cause of problems with commonlit login for students and student login CommonLit searches.

Recover Student Account Access

If a working email address is attached to the student account, select “Forgot Your Password?” on the official login page and follow the instructions sent to that address. Use the student email connected to the account, not a teacher’s email. Check spam or filtered mail if the message does not appear.

School email systems may block recovery messages. If no working email is attached, or if you forgot the username, ask your teacher. The teacher can look up the username on the class roster and issue a temporary password through CommonLit’s class tools. Enter the temporary password exactly as given, then create a new password when prompted.

Students using Google or Clever should first recover access through the school-approved Google or Clever process. CommonLit cannot replace credentials controlled by the school. Contact a school administrator or technology office if the linked school account is locked, disabled, or assigned incorrectly.

A common lit student sign in problem should not be solved by making a duplicate account unless the teacher specifically directs you to do so.

Contact CommonLit Support

First open the official CommonLit Support Center and search for student login, forgotten password, or the sign-in method you use. Its student quick-start and login articles explain the current buttons and account types.

If classroom troubleshooting does not work, use the “Contact Us” option in the official Support Center. Include the student’s full name, known username, account email, class code if applicable, the assigned login method, and the exact error message. Do not include a password.

Ask the teacher or school administrator to submit or assist with the request when the account is managed through a class roster, Google, or Clever. They can verify how the account was created and provide details that CommonLit Support may need. This is the safest route when common lit student sign in attempts still fail after credential and browser checks.
