To change your Google Password Manager PIN, open Google Password Manager in Chrome, select Settings, choose Change Google Password Manager PIN, authenticate, and confirm a new PIN. On an iPhone or iPad, the same option appears under Password Manager settings in Chrome; Android does not provide an option to create, change, or reset this PIN.

The menu is available only when the device and Google Account meet Google’s requirements. If it is missing or you forgot the PIN, use a non-Android device where you previously used Google Password Manager before considering a passkey reset.

What should you know before changing a Google Password Manager PIN?

A Google Password Manager PIN protects encrypted passkeys and helps verify your identity when you use those passkeys on another device. A passkey is a saved sign-in credential that lets you access a participating site or app without entering its account password.

Before you update a Google Password Manager PIN, identify which credential the screen is requesting:

  • The Google Password Manager PIN protects passkeys stored through Google Password Manager. Google says one is created when you create your first passkey on a computer, iPhone, or iPad.

  • Your Google Account password signs you in to your Google Account. Changing that password does not change the Google Password Manager PIN.

  • An Android screen lock can be a PIN, pattern, or password. Google Password Manager uses that screen lock on Android instead of offering a separate PIN-change setting.

  • A Windows Hello PIN unlocks and authenticates you on a Windows device. It is not the Google Password Manager PIN, even if Chrome requests Windows Hello during authentication.

Use a trusted device, confirm that Chrome shows the intended Google Account, and do not share either PIN with anyone.

How do you change a Google Password Manager PIN?

Google officially supports changing the PIN in Chrome on a computer and in Chrome on an iPhone or iPad. The exact authentication prompt can depend on the device.

On a computer:

  1. Open Chrome.

  2. Open the More menu, select Passwords and autofill, and then select Google Password Manager.

  3. Select Settings in the left menu.

  4. Select Change Google Password Manager PIN.

  5. Complete the authentication request shown by Chrome.

  6. Enter the new PIN and select Confirm.

On an iPhone or iPad:

  1. Open Chrome while signed in to the correct Google Account.

  2. Tap More and then Password Manager.

  3. Tap Settings at the bottom left.

  4. Tap Change Google Password Manager PIN and follow the prompts.

There is no Google Password Manager change PIN option on Android. Use an eligible iPhone, iPad, Chromebook, or computer where you are signed in to Chrome instead.

How do you reset a Google Password Manager PIN if you forgot it?

If you forgot the current PIN, Google says you can reset it from a non-Android device where you previously used Google Password Manager. Open the same Change Google Password Manager PIN setting on that computer, iPhone, or iPad and complete the authentication checks presented on screen.

  1. Try every eligible non-Android device on which you previously used Google Password Manager.

  2. Confirm that Chrome is using the same Google Account that holds the passkeys.

  3. Open Google Password Manager, select Settings, and choose Change Google Password Manager PIN.

  4. Follow the displayed identity check and reset instructions.

If none of your devices can recover the PIN, Google provides a separate option to reset passkeys. This is a last resort: Google states that resetting passkeys deletes all passkeys in Google Password Manager, so you must create a new passkey for every affected site. Creating the first new passkey then lets you establish another Google Password Manager PIN.

Google’s instructions describe deletion of passkeys, not deletion of saved passwords. Read every confirmation screen carefully and do not select a passkey reset merely to test whether it solves the problem.

Why is the Change Google Password Manager PIN option missing?

Google lists several reasons the setting may not appear:

  • Your first passkey was created on an Android device.

  • You have not used Google Password Manager passkeys on the current device.

  • You previously used passkeys with a different Google Account on the device.

  • You removed this device’s access to your passkeys.

  • You are checking on Android, where Google does not offer the PIN-change option.

Check the account avatar in Chrome and switch to the account that stores the relevant passkeys. Also confirm that Chrome synchronization is using the intended account. If you know the device and account are eligible, install any available Chrome update, reopen the browser, and check Google Password Manager settings again. An update may restore a missing or outdated interface, but it cannot make an unsupported device eligible.

How can you confirm the new Google Password Manager PIN works?

Google does not provide a separate button solely for testing the PIN. The safest check is to use an existing passkey on an account you recognize and enter the new PIN only when a prompt explicitly says Google Password Manager PIN.

  1. Use a trusted device and open the normal sign-in screen for a site where you already have a passkey.

  2. Select the existing passkey without creating, editing, or deleting a credential.

  3. If Google Password Manager requests its PIN, enter the new PIN.

  4. Confirm that the passkey unlocks. You may cancel or close the sign-in flow afterward if you do not want to enter the account.

Do not expose a saved password merely to test the PIN. Viewing a password may invoke the device screen lock or Windows Hello instead, which would not prove that the separate Google Password Manager PIN works.

Where can you get official Google help with the PIN?

Open the company’s official website and look for Google Chrome Help, then search for “Manage your Google Password Manager PIN.” That official page provides separate instructions for computers, Android devices, and iPhones or iPads.

If you cannot sign in to the Google Account itself, use Google Account Help and its account-recovery process. Account recovery is separate from resetting a Google Password Manager PIN and may ask questions or present verification methods based on the account.

Google Chrome Help also offers its Help Community for unresolved Password Manager problems. Never give a password, PIN, or verification code to someone claiming they need it to provide support.
