To change a Google password on iPhone, open Gmail or the Google app, select your profile picture, and choose Manage your Google Account, then Security and Password. If you forgot the current password, select Forgot password and complete Google’s account-recovery checks.
Where do you change a Google password on iPhone?
The right starting point depends on whether you need to change the Google Account password or only update the password saved on the iPhone.
- Gmail or Google app: Use the account menu to change the actual Google Account password. This password applies to Gmail and other services signed in with the same Google Account.
- Passwords app or Settings > Passwords: Use this area to view or replace a saved sign-in. Changing a saved password entry alone does not change the password held by Google.
- Apple Mail account settings: If Gmail is connected to Apple Mail, these settings manage syncing and reauthentication. They do not normally provide the main password-change controls.
On some iOS versions, saved passwords appear in the Passwords app. On earlier versions, open Settings and select Passwords. If the Google entry offers Change Password on Website, selecting it opens Google’s password page; the change is not complete until Google confirms it.
How do you change a Google password on iPhone?
Use an iPhone on which you are already signed in when possible. Have the current password and access to the recovery phone number, recovery email, or another signed-in device in case Google asks for verification.
- Open the Gmail app or Google app on the iPhone.
- Select the profile picture or account initial in the upper-right corner.
- Select Manage your Google Account. If several accounts appear, first choose the account whose password you want to change.
- Open the Security tab. You may need to move the row of tabs sideways to find it.
- Under the section for signing in to Google, select Password.
- Confirm your identity. Google may ask for the current password, an approval on a signed-in device, or another verification method.
- Enter the new password, enter it again to confirm, and select Change Password.
- Wait for Google to confirm that the password was changed before closing the screen.
To start from a saved login instead, open the Passwords app, or open Settings and select Passwords on an earlier iOS version. Unlock it with Face ID, Touch ID, or the iPhone passcode, select the Google entry, and use the available change-password option. Complete the Google screens that open; editing only the saved entry will not update the Google Account.
How do you reset a Google password on iPhone if you forgot it?
Account recovery is Google’s process for confirming that a person owns an account when the current password is unavailable.
- Open Gmail or the Google app and go to Manage your Google Account, Security, and Password. If you are at a Google sign-in screen instead, enter the account email and continue.
- Select Forgot password when Google asks for the current password.
- Complete the verification method offered. Google may ask for a previous password, an approval prompt on another signed-in device, a code sent to recovery contact information, or answers about the account.
- If the first method is unavailable, select Try another way when that choice appears.
- After Google verifies the account, enter and confirm a new password.
Answer recovery questions as accurately as possible. Using a familiar iPhone, browser, and location can give Google more context during recovery, but it does not guarantee approval. Never give a verification code to another person.
What happens to iPhone apps after a Google password changes?
Changing a Google password can sign the account out on some devices or require apps to verify the account again. An app may continue showing previously downloaded messages while new mail stops syncing.
- Gmail and Google app: The apps may request verification or a fresh sign-in. Follow the prompt and use the new password.
- Apple Mail: Mail may display an account error or stop receiving new messages. Open the Google account in the iPhone’s Mail account settings and complete the Google sign-in prompt.
- Safari or another browser: Existing Google sessions may end. Sign in again with the new password when prompted.
- Saved passwords: Update the Google entry in the Passwords app if the iPhone did not offer to save the new password automatically.
Do not repeatedly enter the old password into an app that is failing to sync. Confirm that the new password works at Google’s normal sign-in screen, then reconnect the affected app.
Why is the new Google password not working on iPhone?
- Google rejects the new password: Enter both copies carefully and follow any requirement shown on the password screen. Avoid reusing a password that Google says cannot be used.
- The old password keeps appearing: The iPhone may have an outdated saved entry. Open the Passwords app or Settings > Passwords and update the matching Google login.
- Mail will not sync: Open the Google account under the iPhone’s Mail account settings and look for a sign-in or reauthentication prompt. Restarting Mail alone does not update account credentials.
- Gmail notifications stop: Open Gmail and check for an account warning. Complete any requested sign-in, then confirm that Gmail notifications remain allowed in iPhone Settings.
- A verification code never arrives: Check that the displayed destination is a recovery phone number or email you can access. Select another verification method if Google offers one; repeated requests may not produce a different option.
How do you keep a Google Account secure after changing the password?
After changing the Google password on iPhone, review the account’s Security section. Confirm that the recovery phone number and recovery email are current, and remove information you no longer control.
Review devices and recent security activity for sessions you do not recognize. Two-Step Verification adds a second identity check after the password; review its available methods and make sure you can access the method selected for the account. Store backup information securely rather than in an unprotected note or message.
