How to Cancel an Apple App Subscription

Before You Cancel an Apple App Subscription

First, identify the Apple Account that was used to start the subscription. On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings and tap your name. The email address or phone number shown there identifies the signed-in account. On a Mac, open the App Store and check the name shown at the bottom of the sidebar.

Search your email for an Apple receipt or invoice if you are unsure which account was used. The receipt should identify the Apple Account connected to the charge. Sign in with that same account when following the cancellation steps.

Also confirm who handles the billing. An Apple-billed subscription appears in the Apple Account subscription list. If the app provider bills you directly, Apple cannot display or cancel it. Check the receipt or statement for the billing company, then use that provider’s official account or support process. This distinction matters when you want to cancel an app subscription through Apple.

Deleting the app does not cancel its subscription. Complete the cancellation process first, then verify the status before removing the app.

Cancel a Subscription on iPhone or iPad

The same Settings path works when you need to cancel an Apple app subscription on iPad or learn how to cancel an Apple app subscription on iPhone.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap your name at the top of the screen.
  3. Tap Subscriptions.
  4. Select the app subscription you want to stop.
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription. You may need to scroll down.
  6. Follow any confirmation prompt that appears.

Return to the subscription details after confirming. If the cancellation succeeded, the screen should show an expiration date instead of a future renewal date. If there is no cancellation button and an expiration message is already displayed, Apple says the subscription has already been canceled.

Cancel a Subscription on Mac

To cancel an Apple app subscription on Mac, manage it through the App Store:

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar. If your name is missing, click Sign In and use the Apple Account connected to the subscription.
  3. Click Account Settings. Sign in again if asked.
  4. Find the Subscriptions section and click Manage.
  5. Select the relevant subscription. Depending on the macOS version, you may need to click Edit.
  6. Click Cancel Subscription and confirm the choice.

Open the subscription again to check its status. A displayed expiration date generally means the Apple App Store subscription cancellation is complete and access remains available until that date.

Cancel a Subscription on Windows or the Web

To cancel an Apple app subscription on Windows, open the Apple Music or Apple TV app for Windows. Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, choose View My Account, and sign in if prompted. Scroll to Settings, find Subscriptions, and select Manage. Find the subscription, choose Edit, and then select Cancel Subscription.

An older installation of iTunes for Windows may also provide subscription controls. Open iTunes, choose Account, then View My Account. In Settings, select Manage beside Subscriptions, choose Edit for the subscription, and confirm cancellation.

If you cannot use an Apple device, you can cancel an Apple app subscription online. Open {site}, go to the Apple Account area, and sign in. Look for subscription management and follow the on-screen cancellation instructions. Some Apple services also provide their own account controls on the web. Always verify that you are using the Apple Account that receives the subscription receipts.

If the Subscription Is Missing

If the subscription does not appear, do not assume it has been canceled. Check these common causes:

  • You may be signed in with another Apple Account. Search your email for an Apple receipt and check which account it names.
  • A family member may have started the subscription with their own Apple Account. Family members manage subscriptions tied to their individual accounts, even when access is shared.
  • The app provider may bill the subscription directly. Check the receipt or financial statement for the company responsible for the charge, then contact that provider through its official service.
  • The subscription may already be canceled and listed as inactive or expired. Review both active and inactive entries.
  • The account may not have finished loading. Check the connection, close and reopen the relevant settings or app, and sign in again if necessary.

Do not enter another person’s account without permission. Ask the family member who started the subscription to review and cancel it from their own account.

Confirm the Subscription Was Canceled

After you cancel a subscription in the Apple App Store, reopen its details from the Subscriptions screen. The key information is the status shown beside the service.

  • An expiration date means automatic renewal has been stopped. Access normally continues through the displayed date.
  • A renewal date means the subscription is still scheduled to renew. Look again for the cancellation control and complete every confirmation prompt.
  • No Cancel Subscription button, together with an expiration message, indicates that cancellation has already been recorded.
  • An inactive or expired label means the subscription is no longer active.

Take a screenshot of the status for your records if helpful. Check that the app name and Apple Account are correct, especially if you manage several subscriptions. Canceling does not normally remove access immediately, so being able to use the app until the displayed expiration date does not mean the cancellation failed.

Get Help With Cancellation

Contact official Apple Support if the cancellation control is unavailable, the subscription remains set to renew after confirmation, or you cannot access the Apple Account connected to it. Choose the billing and subscriptions topic, then follow the offered support options.

If account access is the problem, use Apple’s account recovery process before trying again. Apple Support can explain the available steps, but it may need to verify account ownership.

When requesting help, have the subscription name, the Apple Account identifier, the most recent Apple receipt, and a screenshot of the status ready. Do not send a password or verification code. If the receipt names another billing company, contact that company instead because the subscription is not managed through Apple.
