Redeem and Check an Apple Gift Card on iPhone

Updated 2026-08-15 · 1083 words

Which Apple Gift Card Do You Have?

Check the name and design before trying to redeem the card. A current Apple Gift Card usually has a colorful Apple logo on a white background. Older cards may say App Store & iTunes or Apple Store.

An Apple Gift Card or App Store & iTunes Gift Card can normally be redeemed into your Apple Account balance. That balance can then be used for eligible Apple products, apps, subscriptions, media, and services.

An older Apple Store Gift Card works differently. These cards are commonly gray, white, silver, or gold. They cannot be redeemed into an Apple Account balance through the App Store or iTunes Store. They are intended for eligible physical products through an Apple Store, Apple’s official online store, or the Apple Store app.

This distinction matters if you are searching for how to redeem an Apple Store Gift Card on iPhone. Use the Apple Store app or Apple’s official online store and enter the card number or PIN during checkout when that option appears. Do not enter an older Apple Store Gift Card in the App Store’s Redeem Gift Card or Code screen.

How to Redeem an Apple Gift Card on iPhone

Before starting Apple Gift Card redemption on iPhone, uncover the redemption code carefully. A physical card generally has a 16-digit code on the back, sometimes beneath a peel-off or gently removable coating. The code used in the App Store usually begins with X.

  1. Open the App Store app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap your photo, initials, or the sign-in button at the top of the screen.
  3. Sign in to the Apple Account that should receive the funds.
  4. Tap Redeem Gift Card or Code.
  5. Choose Use Camera and place the code inside the frame. If the camera cannot read it, choose the option to enter the code manually.
  6. Check the characters, then tap Redeem and follow any remaining prompts.

The full card value is added to the signed-in Apple Account. It is not kept as a separate balance for that card after redemption.

On supported iPhones and in supported regions, Wallet offers another route. Open Wallet, select the Apple Account card, tap the More button, and choose Redeem. Scan the card or enter its code manually. If the Apple Account card is not available, use the App Store steps above.

How to Check Your Apple Gift Card Balance on iPhone

To view an Apple Gift Card balance on iPhone after redemption, check the Apple Account balance:

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Tap your photo, initials, or the sign-in button.
  3. Sign in if asked.
  4. Look beneath your name or account details. If a balance is available, the amount appears there. If no amount appears, Apple says the account has no balance.

You may also see the amount on the Apple Account card in Wallet where that feature is available. Open Wallet and tap Apple Account. The balance and recent transactions appear below the card.

To check an Apple gift card balance on iPhone before redeeming it, go to Apple’s official website and find the Gift Cards area. Select the option labeled Check Balance or Check Your Gift Card Balance, then enter the card PIN as requested. Do not use a third-party balance page.

An older App Store & iTunes card may not show a separate remaining amount before redemption. If it has been redeemed, check Apple Account gift card balance in the App Store instead. An older Apple Store Gift Card follows the balance instructions in Apple’s Shopping Help or Gift Cards area.

If the Gift Card Will Not Redeem

Read the exact message before trying again. It usually points to one of these problems:

  • Invalid card: Confirm that it is not an older Apple Store Gift Card. Enter the code manually and compare similar characters such as B and 8, O and 0, S and 5, or Z and 2. Use the redemption code, not a serial number or another printed number.
  • Not activated: The card may not have been activated when it was originally issued. Keep the card and proof of purchase, then contact the business that issued it or Apple Support as directed by Apple.
  • Already redeemed: Check the balance of the Apple Account currently signed in. If the amount looks wrong, sign out of the App Store and sign back in, then review the account’s purchase history for charges or subscription renewals.
  • Unreadable code: Do not guess repeatedly or share photographs publicly. Contact Apple Support and keep the complete card, serial number, and receipt available.
  • Different country or region: Apple Gift Cards, App Store Cards, and App Store & iTunes Gift Cards generally must be redeemed in the country or region where they were issued. Apple does not provide a method to bypass this restriction.

If several attempts fail, stop entering variations of the code. Repeated guesses can make it harder to identify the original problem.

Apple Account and Region Requirements

You must sign in to an Apple Account before redeeming through the App Store. Confirm the displayed email address before continuing because the redeemed value becomes attached to that account.

The account’s country or region must match the card’s country or region. Changing settings does not convert a card from one region into another, and support may be unable to transfer redeemed value between accounts.

An Apple Account balance is separate from credit cards, debit cards, Apple Cash, and other payment methods. Adding or removing another payment method does not move or erase the gift card balance. Apple may apply the account balance first for eligible transactions, but some purchases or subscriptions can still require another valid payment method.

Contact Apple Support

Use Apple’s official website and open the Support section. Search for gift card redemption, then choose the option to contact support. You can also open the Apple Support app, select the relevant account or billing topic, and follow the available contact choices shown for your location.

Have these items ready:

  • The full front and back of the card.
  • The redemption code and serial number, shared only through Apple’s official support process.
  • The original receipt or other proof of purchase.
  • The exact error message.
  • The email address used for the Apple Account.
  • The country or region where the card was issued.

Never send the complete code to an unknown person or enter it on an unofficial page. Apple Support may need card images or proof of purchase to investigate, but provide them only through the secure method Apple gives you.
