To request an App Store return, sign in to Apple’s Report a Problem page with the Apple Account used for the purchase, then choose “Request a refund.” Select the purchase, provide the requested reason, and submit the App Store return request for Apple to review.

For a digital App Store purchase, a “return” normally means asking Apple for a refund; there is no physical item to send back. Submitting a request does not guarantee approval.

Where to Start an App Store Return

Apple handles return and refund requests through its official Report a Problem account area. Open {site}, find the option for requesting a refund, and sign in with the Apple Account that made the App Store purchase.

An Apple Account is the account used with Apple services such as the App Store. Before starting, have access to that account and look for the Apple email receipt so you can confirm the app, subscription, or in-app item involved.

Use Apple’s process even if the charge appears on a card or bank statement. The App Store developer does not control Apple’s refund system, and a payment provider cannot place an App Store return request into your Apple account.

How to Submit an App Store Return Request

Follow these steps to return an App Store purchase through Apple’s self-service process:

  1. Open Apple’s Report a Problem page and sign in with the Apple Account used for the purchase.
  2. Select the menu labeled “I’d like to.”
  3. Choose “Request a refund.”
  4. Select the reason that accurately describes why you are requesting the refund.
  5. Select “Next.”
  6. Choose the app, subscription, in-app purchase, or other listed item connected to the request.
  7. Select “Submit.”

Read the selected item and reason before submitting. Similar app names, repeated subscription charges, and purchases made by family members can make it easy to choose the wrong entry.

If the charge relates to a subscription you no longer want, a refund request and subscription cancellation are separate actions. Submitting a request does not by itself confirm that future renewals have been canceled. Review the subscription in your Apple Account separately if you also need to stop renewal.

How Do You Check the Status of an App Store Return?

To check an App Store return request, sign in to the same Apple Report a Problem account area used to submit it. Choose “Check Status of Claims,” then select “Pending” to view the request and its current status.

If “Check Status of Claims” does not appear, Apple says there are no pending refund requests associated with that signed-in account. Confirm that you used the same Apple Account that submitted the request. If you have more than one Apple Account, check each relevant account rather than submitting duplicate requests.

An approved request and the appearance of funds on the original payment method are separate events. The status page is the appropriate place to confirm Apple’s decision; your payment provider’s account shows when any approved credit becomes visible there.

What If the App Store Purchase Is Missing?

If an App Store purchase return is unavailable because the item is missing, first verify which Apple Account was charged. Check your email for an Apple receipt or invoice, then compare the item shown on the receipt with the charge you are questioning.

  • Wrong Apple Account: The receipt identifies the account used. Sign out of the Report a Problem page and sign in with that account.

  • Multiple Apple Accounts: Check each account that you may have used for App Store purchases.

  • Pending charge: Apple does not make a pending charge available for a refund request. Wait until Apple sends the email receipt, then check again.

  • Unpaid order: Apple may require the unpaid order to be resolved before the refund option becomes available. The account may also prompt you to update payment information.

  • Family Sharing: If you are the family organizer and the purchase belongs to a family member, select the Apple Account button and choose “All.” Purchases charged to the shared payment method should appear there.

  • Different billing source: Review the receipt to confirm that Apple processed the transaction. A transaction processed outside Apple’s App Store payment system will not appear as an App Store purchase return.

Why Can’t You Request an App Store Return Online?

The online request option may be unavailable when the charge is still pending, an order remains unpaid, the wrong Apple Account is signed in, or Apple did not process the transaction. The item may also be absent if it belongs to another family member or was made with a different Apple Account.

Do not guess which account or transaction to select. Match the purchase to an Apple receipt and confirm the account named on it. If no receipt exists, review the transaction description and purchase history before treating the charge as an App Store purchase.

Some refunds cannot be requested through Apple’s self-service page. If the correct, completed purchase appears but no refund option is offered, or if account and billing checks do not explain the problem, use Apple Support for review.

How Do You Contact Apple Support About an App Store Return?

Open {site} and choose the support path for billing, purchases, subscriptions, or refunds. Sign in when prompted so Apple Support can review the correct account and direct you to the available support channel.

Before contacting Apple Support, have the Apple Account email, receipt, purchase date, item name, and any request status ready. Do not send a password, account verification code, or full payment-card details in a message.

Contact Apple Support when the purchase is missing after you have checked every relevant Apple Account, the self-service refund option is unavailable for a completed Apple charge, you cannot access the account used, or the online status does not resolve the issue. Apple Support can explain the next official step, but it cannot guarantee that an App Store return request will be approved.
