Sign in to the account used on Android

There is no separate “Android account” for most phones. The sign-in used for the Android app store is usually a Google Account. Have your Google email address and password ready.

  1. Open the phone’s Settings app.
  2. Tap Accounts, Passwords and accounts, or a similar option.
  3. Choose Add account, then Google.
  4. Enter your email address and password.
  5. Complete any identity check shown on the screen.

If you forgot the password, use the account recovery option on the sign-in screen. If a verification prompt is sent to another device, check that device before requesting another prompt. Avoid creating a new account unless you intend to keep purchases, downloads, and saved app information separate.

If sign-in keeps returning to the same screen, confirm that the phone has an internet connection and that its date and time are set automatically. Restart the phone, then try again. A work, school, or family-managed account may require approval from its administrator.

Open the Android app store when it is missing or stuck

The Android apps store is normally labeled Play Store. Swipe up from the home screen to open the full app list, then search for “Play Store.” You can also use the phone’s Settings search to find it.

If the store icon is missing, open Settings, choose Apps, and look for Google Play Store. Tap Enable if that option appears. If the store opens but stays blank or will not start a download, check the connection and available storage, close the store, and restart the phone.

A download may also remain pending while another app is updating. Open the store’s app-management area and pause other updates before trying again. If the device does not include Play Store, use only the app store supplied by the device maker. Do not install files offered by an unexpected pop-up or message.

Check a Windows app or website outage

If the Windows app or Watchtower website appears down, first decide whether the problem affects one device or every device you can test. Try the same service in a browser, then switch between Wi-Fi and another trusted connection if one is available.

  • If the browser works but the Windows app does not, fully close the app and reopen it.
  • If neither the app nor the site works on one device, restart that device and check its date and time.
  • If the service fails on several devices and connections, it may be a temporary service outage. Wait and try again later.

For an official Windows app download or current service notice, start at the company’s official website. Check the publisher name before installing anything. If a security warning says the publisher cannot be verified, cancel the installation rather than bypassing the warning.
