Amazon Order Tracking by Order or Tracking Number
Which Number You Need to Track an Amazon Order
Amazon uses two different numbers for an order. The Amazon order number identifies the transaction in Amazon’s system. It appears in Your Orders, the order details, and order confirmation messages. It may cover several items or packages.
A carrier tracking number identifies one shipment as it moves through a delivery network. It normally appears after the package ships, inside the shipment details. If an order is divided into several packages, each package may have a different tracking number or carrier.
Amazon tracking by order number is therefore account-based: sign in and use the order number to locate the correct order. Amazon tracking by tracking number follows a particular package through Amazon Shipping or another named carrier. An Amazon order number is not a public carrier tracking number.
Track an Amazon Order by Order Number
To track an Amazon order by order number, use the account that placed the order:
- Open {site} and sign in.
- Open Your Orders or Orders.
- Choose the time period that includes the order, if needed.
- Match the order number shown in the list with the number in the confirmation message.
- Select Track Package, Track Shipment, or View Order Details.
- Review the current status, expected arrival information, shipment progress, and any delivery notice shown.
There may not be a box where you can type an order number. In that case, find it in the order list or use the available order search. Searches such as amazon order tracking by order number, amazon order status by order number, or amazon track my order by number all lead to this same account-based process.
Track by Carrier Tracking Number
For Amazon order tracking by tracking number, first open the order in Your Orders. Select Track Package or View Order Details, then expand the shipment information if necessary. Look for the carrier name and tracking number. Copy the tracking number exactly, without adding surrounding labels or punctuation.
If Amazon Shipping is the carrier, use Amazon’s official package-tracking option. If another carrier is named, open that carrier’s official tracking channel and enter the number there. The carrier may show additional scans or location details after it receives the package.
Amazon tracking by tracking number concerns the shipment, while the Amazon order by tracking number may still contain other items traveling separately. Return to the order details to check every package.
Track an Order Without Signing In
An Amazon order number alone does not normally provide public tracking. Order details contain private information and are generally available through the account that placed the order.
A gift recipient may be able to follow a package through an official tracking link shared by the sender or included in an Amazon message. A person who placed the order can also share the available shipment tracking details. Use only the exact link or tracking information supplied for that gift.
If a family member, employer, or another person placed the order through their account, ask that account holder to open Your Orders and share the current status or Amazon’s available tracking option. Do not repeatedly try to sign in to an account that is not yours. Without a shared tracking link or valid carrier number, the account holder must check the order.
What Amazon Tracking Statuses Mean
Ordered means Amazon has recorded the order, but the shipment may not yet have a carrier scan or tracking number.
Shipped means the package has entered the shipping process. Tracking can take time to show its first scan.
Out for delivery means the package is with the local delivery operation for an attempted delivery. It does not guarantee delivery at a particular time.
Delivered means the carrier recorded the package as delivered. Check the displayed delivery location, photo, mailbox, building desk, household members, and nearby safe places.
Delayed means the expected timing has changed. Open the tracking details for the newest estimate or instruction.
Delivery attempted means the carrier could not complete delivery. The details may explain what prevented delivery or whether another attempt is planned.
If the Order Number or Tracking Number Does Not Work
Check the number character by character. Remove spaces copied before or after it, but preserve any hyphens that are part of the displayed Amazon order number. Do not enter an order number in a carrier’s tracking field.
If the tracking number is new, the carrier may not have completed its first scan. Check again later from the order details. Also review every shipment: split orders can show different statuses and numbers.
A canceled order may have no active shipment. An archived order may be absent from the main order list, so check Archived Orders where available. Change the order-list time period if the order is older.
If track order on Amazon by order number produces no match, confirm that you are signed in with the same email address or mobile number used when the order was placed. Check whether a household member, workplace, or other account placed it. The phrases amazon order track by order number, amazon tracking by number, track Amazon by order number, and Amazon track by order number do not describe a separate public lookup service.
Get Help With a Missing or Delayed Order
Open the affected order in Your Orders and choose the order-specific help option shown, such as Track Package, Problem with Order, Get Help, or Customer Service. The available wording depends on the order’s status and who handles the shipment. Follow the prompts for a late, missing, attempted, or delivered-but-not-found package.
Before contacting support, prepare the Amazon order number, item name, account email or mobile number, delivery address, carrier name, tracking number, current status, and the date of the last tracking update. Note whether the order was split and which package is missing.
Using the help option attached to the order gives support the relevant shipment record. Whether you searched for track Amazon order by number, Amazon order tracking by number, or Amazon tracking by order number, start with that specific order rather than a general tracking search.
