How to Access My VA Health Records Online

Updated 2026-08-19 · 880 words

To access your VA health records online, sign in to My HealtheVet on VA.gov with an identity-verified Login.gov or ID.me account. After signing in, open the health records area to view available notes, test results, allergies, vaccines, and care summaries.

Where do I access my VA health records online?

Open {site} and choose the option to review medical records online. VA now provides My HealtheVet health-record tools through VA.gov.

The correct VA health records login page identifies VA.gov or My HealtheVet on VA.gov and offers Login.gov and ID.me as the sign-in choices. A VA page may transfer you to the selected identity provider during sign-in. Do not enter credentials on a page reached through an unexpected message or one that presents a different sign-in provider.

Online access is generally available to Veterans who are enrolled in VA health care and registered as patients at a VA health facility. Some facilities may still direct patients to My VA Health; follow the portal shown for your facility after signing in.

How do I sign in and view my VA health records?

  1. Open the official VA medical-records page through {site}.
  2. Select the button to sign in or review your medical records.
  3. Choose Login.gov or ID.me and enter the credentials for that account.
  4. Complete multifactor authentication. Multifactor authentication is a second security check, such as a code or an authenticator method, used after your password.
  5. After returning to VA.gov, open My HealtheVet and select Health records or Medical records.
  6. Choose the category you need, such as lab and test results, care summaries and notes, vaccines, allergies, or other available health information.
  7. Select an individual item to view its details.

VA medical records online may not contain every document immediately. Availability can depend on the type of record, when it was added, and the system used by your VA facility.

Which sign-in method should I use for VA health records?

VA.gov currently supports two sign-in credentials: Login.gov and ID.me. Either can provide access to My HealtheVet after the account is identity-verified.

  • Use Login.gov if you already have an identity-verified Login.gov account and can complete its multifactor authentication.
  • Use ID.me if you already have an identity-verified ID.me account and can complete its multifactor authentication.
  • Create one of these accounts if you have neither. Follow the instructions shown by the provider and use your own email address and identity documents.

My HealtheVet usernames and passwords and DS Logon credentials are no longer accepted for VA online services. Your existing health information was not removed because those sign-in methods ended. Sign in with an identity-verified Login.gov or ID.me account instead.

How do I download or print my VA health records?

  1. Sign in and open the VA health-records area.
  2. Select the record category or individual record you want.
  3. If the page provides filters, choose the relevant date range or available record types.
  4. Select the displayed download or print option.
  5. For a download, choose an available file format and save the file to a location you can find.
  6. For printing, review the preview, select the correct printer, and complete the browser’s print process.

Some record screens may offer downloads for individual items rather than one combined file. A VA Blue Button report, when available in your account, lets you select health information and create a report for saving or printing.

Downloaded and printed records contain private health information. Store the file or paper copy where other people cannot access it, especially when using a shared phone, computer, or printer.

What should I do if I cannot sign in or verify my identity?

  • Forgotten password: Use the password-recovery option provided by Login.gov or ID.me. VA support representatives cannot reset a password belonging to either identity provider.
  • Locked account: Follow the notice from the identity provider. Do not repeatedly guess passwords or create another account unless the provider’s instructions tell you to do so.
  • Verification trouble: Confirm that your personal details match the documents you submit. Use the identity provider’s official help options if verification cannot be completed.
  • Missing authentication code: Check your cellular or internet connection and the authentication method registered to the account. Then use the provider’s recovery or support process shown on its sign-in screen.
  • Error after verification: Close the current tab, open a new one, and sign in to VA.gov again. The earlier session may have expired while verification was underway.
  • Browser problem: Close and reopen the browser, clear its cache and cookies, allow cookies for sign-in, install browser updates, or try another current browser.
  • Missing records: Check that you selected the right category and date range. If the record still does not appear, contact your VA health care team or the Release of Information office at your VA facility.

How do I contact official VA health records support?

For trouble accessing My HealtheVet or using its online record tools, contact the official My HealtheVet help desk listed in the verified contact block above this article. Use the Login.gov or ID.me support option shown by that provider for password, account-lock, multifactor-authentication, or identity-verification problems.

For questions about information missing from my VA health records, contact your VA health care team or your facility’s Release of Information office. Support staff can help with access and record-location questions, but they cannot interpret medical information or change an identity provider’s credentials.
